so next tuesday is Apple's birthday (if i'm not mistaken), and it's also the 4th and final week of an expected (and so-called imminent) iMac update, as first reported weeks ago by MacScoop.

everyone knows that the iMac is steve job's baby... could there be something unexpected when the new iMac is released to correlate with the celebrations? any thoughts?

but please, let's keep this a blu-ray-free thread, thanks.

MacScoop were wrong. As was my prediction.

No update till June.

So we can only speculate about Blu-ray being a free upgrade in the new iMacs?:p

That'd be neat if Apple gave themselves a birthday present in the form of updated iMacs.

Being the day that it is, they should put out this picture on the front page with "iMac" Photoshopped on it.

"Introducing the new iMac. Reinventing square one."

Let's hope so.

I am waiting to pull the trigger on an IMac and I figured I have about 3 weeks left in me.

My target date is April 16th. If nothing happens to the IMac line in that time period I am going to go ahead with the refurb 20" and then you can bet they will update it sometime after that. Say...15 days later. :p

Because the World Wide Developers Conference is in June. Another time Apple usually does "something"

Personally, I think that is when the 3G Iphone announcement will drop along with the launch of the Apps store.

i agree 100%... why wait 'till WWDC'08 in june to give the iMac a menial speed bump, while that week is going to be all about iPhone 3G, iPhone SDK, and the App Store. besides, resellers (like Futureshop here in Canada) have had all iMacs on sale ($100 off) for almost 2 weeks now, and they even extended their sale from the original end date. it seems the resellers know it's coming, but maybe not exactly when. however, they are certainly not going to have a sale up to June.

Apple's birthday may be this month, but don't forget that the 10 year anniversary of the original iMac introduction is coming up on May 6th (they were introduced may 6th 1998 and shipped august 15th 1998) SO perhaps there will be something going on there. A decade of imac is pretty great too.

humm... that would be something... would be kinda a shame if the iMac released on the 10th annaversary was a lackluster penryn update... maybe a 30" iMac though (with penryn of course).

As Intel release new and better processor chips, each range has a 'name' (like Penryn). When the new chips become available, but Apple doesn't update the product line, people tend to start whining about wanting the new processor chips in the iMac. In this case, it is the Penryn chips people want. In a few months, Intel will be releasing 2nd generation Penryn chips, and after that Nehalem chips. And people will start whining for those too :)

In Jesus Christ,

GB,

I don't think this is really just singled with Apple, but it's just this community that whines a bit more. :D

The next version of the Core2 processor.

It's a tiny incy bit faster and being introduced more for cost reasons on Intel's part. Current processors are have 65 nanometre transistors and the new ones use the 45 nanometre process. They just want to convert all their facilities to use the same process as it's more cost effective.
