In 2001 Apply redefined their company with a single device the Ipod. A device that would change the company forever!

Mr. Jobs has never led a stagnate company and realized that as the market changed and technology advanced for Apple to stay on top they would need to take advantage of every market possible.

Right now Apple owns the IPod market has steady control over the Smartphone market and created the tablet market. These three post computer devices have put Apple on the map to stay. Now that the I pad and even I pad 2 are out the big question is what will Apple release as their 4th post computer gadget?

Keeping in mind that this may be released in the next decade please share your thoughts.

The iToaster. It's inevitable.

Who knows? What other category product can we think of in addition to all the other ones we have now?

They no longer have the lead of the smartphone market and tablets existed long before the iPad. They simply brought tablets to consumers (a different market segment).

He said Apple created the tablet market, which they did. He did not say they invented the tablet.

I know he didn't state that Apple invented the tablet. The tablet market already existed when Apple entered the arena with the iPad. Many businesses (ours and even my orthodontist) had already adopted tablets for various purposes. They weren't widespread, but by virtue of a product being available and some people purchasing it, that is when the tablet market was created.

I repeat: Apple created a different market segment by bringing tablets into the consumer arena, where they didn't exist before.

Apple never did lead the smartphone market ( sales wise ).

To be honest I didn’t do any fact checking, my bad. I guess the above comment I made was more what I believe, which can never be as accurate as hard facts I am actually glad I am being challenged on this.
I will say this though it’s true Apple doesn’t fully own the Smart Phone market but all you have to do is look at all the other model phones that have recently come out. 9 out of ten of these resemble the I phone at least in design.

The OS for these phones are different but again what is ever company trying to do? They are trying to build a successful App store. So far from personal experience with a black berry I can say that there app store is total crap but I have not played around with any other device much. It’s funny that even with all the crappy restrictions that Jobs puts on the app store because he is stubborn, they are still on top it just goes to show that they have something really good. In fact I think its fare to say they invented the first app store or at least the first successful one.

As for the I pad I believe Jobs said that they have 65,000 apps compared to any other tablet about 100 max. I can’t confirm this because I don’t have a tablet but it’s clear that they own and have created this market not the first tablet, the first successful tablet and the only reason why they are main stream.

This is one thing I love about apple they drive innovation by opening up new markets and forcing companies to build inferior products to try and grab some market share. I say this and I am not even a hard core Apple dude I just think there design rocks.

Go John Ives!!!! You should be designing more than just products for apple, what would the world look and feel like if it was designed by John Ives? I guess that will be my next Form…
