Apple's iLife and iWork 09 badge

I was just heading to the Apple site to check it out (again) but this time it loaded with the iLife and iWork box images. I looked at them, looking at the design, and thought about the '09 badges for a minute.

For reference:

This is just the way I see it, but the '09 badges are reversed. To me, I'm thinking that the iLife badge is more of a 'business' type badge. It's more classy, upscale and what not. The iWork '09 badge is more of a grungy, dirty, fun symbol.

Now this is just my thinking, but from a design and marketing stand point wouldn't you put the more classy or 'business-esque' type logo onto your 'business' applications and the fun logo onto your playing around software.

Just a thought, I'm probably over thinking it.

To me the ilife's "09" badge look like a stamp on your passport, which implies travel, fun, pictures, and homemovies.

The other one is more 'boring", you know like work.

So no, I dont think they are switched.

I thought the same thing about the iLife badge resembling a passport or mail stamp.

I thought the iLife one looked like the Guide in a manual focus camera. I can't remember what that's called, but the little circle in the middle that tells you if you are in focus or not. Man, it seems like that has a name, but i can't remember it. Been a long time since i've used an MF lens.

I honestly don't like the design of either box. I think they are kind of over done and stupid. I mean, sure it's "neat", and straight to the point, but i like their past box designs much better.

I like the updated look - it captures the identity of the software and gives it an update. The look of each one fits what they'll be used for.

My only beef is the tilt on the "'09" thing... I don't think they should have been tilted; it makes them look off balance and unfinished. That, and the new look itself is playful enough.

I dont think any business person would use iWork regardless of the package design, it just doesnt work well at all with MS Office. If anyone is going to use iWork it will likely be people working by themselves, mainly students, in which case I think its good for that target.

I agree with you.

I am a designer and I often need to use Office like apps.

I like to use iWork simply because I really hate the way office 2004 looked on the mac.

I really think keynote is far better than Powerpoint. (is like comparing MS Paint to Photoshop)- I just wish that Apple would release a keynote viewer for Windows. A lot gets lost in translation when exporting Keynote presentations to Powerpoint.
