G'day,

I have a couple of older, but not "too" old iPads, running iOS 16 or there abouts, and I am trying to "clone" / copy over the data from 1 to the other.

According to Apple this should be pretty simple with their "Quick Start" option to copy over the original iPad's settings, and also data/apps.

However, after completing the initial setup part, getting it to transfer the apps/data seems just impossible and it gets caught in a loop of asking to transfer the data, then circling back to the start of the Quick Start process.

This is a common issue people all over the Net are asking about, and yet no one seems to have a solution.

Very frustrating... especially when I have an 8yo expecting his "new" iPad tomorrow...

cheers

Is you Wi-Fi connection very good and stable? All your iPads should have the best possible Wi-Fi signal.

Are you not able to set a new iPad up based on an existing backup? Maybe that’s a way to go. I could definitely see the migration service not picking up from some older versions of iOS.

The other day I was trying to do the same thing - going from 6th Gen iPad to a 9th Gen. After going around in circles a lot of times, it finally just worked for no particular reason.

Now here I am again, needing to go from the 5th Gen to 6th Gen... and same problem, but this time it's just not magically working all of a sudden.

Wifi is good.

I did try to perform a back up of the iPad to my 2012 Mac Mini running Mojave, and it said there was incompatible software. It didnt tell me what was incompatible..... I just tried again, and it downloaded - SOMETHING - and was able to connect via iTunes - HOWEVER, it's now saying that I can't use the backup file from the 5th Gen iPad to the 6th Gen, because the 6th Gen needs an iOS update first.

This makes no sense (other than Apple forcing iOS updates), because the iOS on the 6th Gen was either the same, or higher than the 5th Gen...

Regardless, with no choice... I am now trying to upgrade the iOS on the 6th Gen iPad.
