Well Ive had my macbook for about 8 months now, and its been back to Apple three times now ...

I had to take it in this friday as a CD managed to get stuck in the drive and wouldn't eject - just before I took it in I actually managed to get the CD out, but only with slight force.

So I took it into the store and they said it should be fine and they'll fix it, got a call yesterday saying that there is physical damage to the metal sheild in the bottom case, a piece of metal that is that can only be accessed from the inside of the machine ... so surely either someone whos been inside the machine has done this (an Apple Genius), or it would have cracked the outside plastic case. This means as its physical damage its not covered under the warentee and so they want to charge me £70 labour + parts to fix it!!!

Anyone else had this problem, know anything about it? I'm getting less and less happy with Apple atm.

Call Applecare or talk to a manager. I've had mostly bad experiences going into apple stores for service. Those people are chomping at the bit to blame to customer.

In my experience apple repairs are poorly done and my computer came back with a new problem each time.

Unless you have taken apart the MacBook yourself, i can't see how you could have physically damaged it yourself. If it broke when trying to get the CD out, then that is one of the issues with slot-loading drives.

You could try calling Apple Tech Support and explaining them your issue, since it has been in for repair 3 times it is likely something will work in your favour.

Cheers for the replies, I may well try and phone them. Also if I ever get through to the Apple store I will ask the technition how he thinks I could have broken it without opening it up :p

BTW - the three repairs were for all different things.

He might say you broke it when you got the CD, but most people would have done the exact same thing, to try to get the cd out.

I once got a cd stuck in my car stereo, and it was a slot-loading, and i tried to stick pliers in there to get it out, I broke part of the disc but never got it out, went to the dealer and they just replaced it. I mean, they could have said "You tampered with it when the cd got stuck and made it worse" or some crap like that, but they have to cut some people some slack.

You are right, the technicians are quick to blame the customers. I work in a large computer store and I always hear our techs blaming the customers for no reason, (not for stuff the techs have broke), but like if the customer comes in with a certain problem, and the techs can't duplicate it, then it becomes "The customer CLAIMS there is something wrong"..They think customers make up stuff sometimes...I am always saying to them "You really think a customer would make up a freezing issue and be without their computer for a few days? For Kicks?"

call up apple and talk to a manager and tell them your situation...if they are not happy dont yell but be very firm in telling them that you did not do it
