Actually my previous post reminded me of a very good point. My carrier setup my eSIM by simply typing in the IMEI number of the phone into a computer. Once they did that, the phone sprung to life and activated the eSIM.

So yeah. Call your carrier.
Hard to call your carrier when you don’t have a working phone 🤦‍♂️

Sorry to hear about your phone problems hope you are able to get everything straightened out. Also as for the e-sim I have a iPhone 14 standard model and the loss of the SIM card does not bother me years ago when Verizon was only a CDMA network operator, their phones all had to be activated by the computer as cdma could not be used by a SIM card also I find it funny that people forget that there was a version of the iPhone 4 that did not have a SIM card slot and the reason for that is so that phone could work on Verizon CDMA network👍🏻
Maybe you and many people are happy with eSIM, I myself will probably switch to eSIM for one of my numbers the day I buy a modern iPhone.

However, you should understand that in the case of the OP, where the iPhone just dies and you cannot “move” your eSIM from one phone to another, it’s a big inconvenience. So I completely understand why he’s so pissed off.

Just looking at the “bad luck” comments from a distance: One 14PM died is kind of bad luck. Two 14PM dies within 2 weeks for the same owner, this is more then bad luck, this is something else…

Yeah, it’s garbage quality control on Apple’s part.

Unless, having it my pocket the first time caused the problem. Or maybe it was last night having it connected to the Apple MagSafe charger that caused it. Probably one of those two outlier events that caused it 🙄

is there a charger or cable in common between the two phones? It’s possible a faulty charger or USB port on a computer or something could have done this to both devices.

Not ruling out poor quality hardware though as I’ve had some similar issues more than once with Apple replacements over the years. Had a 4S that didn’t even make it out of the mall before it failed. They are not new devices but refurbished, and at times they seem to be faulty, unlike the refurbished ones you buy online.I’m wondering if there are different repair facilities refurbishing service phones than refurbished online sales phones. Used to all come from Texas pre iPhone, probably not like that today.

1st phone was in my pocket when it died. 2nd phone was on the Apple MagSafe charger when it died sometime in the night.

I think this is the current state of any phones as of right now. From anecdotal experiences from my friends and lots of forums in my country (Indonesia), I have these:
- Apple: overheating, battery drain, WiFi connection failures
- Samsung: intermittent lags, bad palm rejection, battery drain, bloated OS, fragile screen on Fold models
- Xiaomi/Redmi: OS instability, ad-ridden system
- Oppo/Vivo/Realme: charging port issue (water leak detected when there are none), vibration motor failure, ad-ridden system app, intermittent lags
**No Sony / OnePlus / Tecno / Google / MS Surface mentioned because it's not being sold here. And yes, all the phones being mentioned has some of them went dead for no apparent reason.

Sad. Really sad. It's like manufacturers only care about churning their latest models, pushing so-called "trendy" influencers and move their brand evangelists to milk us - the real customers - dry of our money and make sure we keep upgrading yearly or bi-yearly. All these while cutting features and hardwares and celebrating it as if they care about our planet.

Current state is we have the most reliable phones ever made. With the most stable software by a long mile.
It's all the matter of perspective.

Anyone who used first smartphones pre-iPhone running Symbian would know. When your contacts could disappear any time, phone wouldn't come turn back after a simple restart, or a new app would "kill" the OS and you'd need to ship it to the service centre.

iPhone is one of the most reliable phones on the market regardless how loud OP screams that it's not.
Apple offered him a replacement phone while the other one is in the repair. Most manufacturers do not.

Which was unusable due to the fact that it was a 64GB phone that I could not load my backup on that I needed for work that would maybe last 3-4 hours off a charger. So I bought a new one while they sent my old one in for repair. Now new one is completely bricked and replacement phone can't be activated because of eSIM. So its back to the Apple store again today to deal with these "geniuses" for another 2-3 hours.

If it an important work phone then you should always keep a backup phone for times like this..

I followed the previous thread back then and I agree at this point that the quality control surely must be lacking - no high-end hardware just dies out of nowhere in the first days, weeks, months or even the first 2 years. Both of your phones had manufacturing defects that slipped through QC, there is no other explanation. However:

The eSIM issue is not related to Apple, it is related to your provider. With my provider I can login to an online portal and re-provision an existing eSIM, which automatically deactivates it on the previous device and allows me to download it onto the new one. If your provider doesn't offer that it's not Apple's fault.

Apple indeed has this function to move your eSIM across iPhones, but that was never meant to work with a broken phone. It's a convenience feature for users to make upgrading to the lastest iPhone as seamless as possible.

Apple won't be able to restore the eSIM onto the replaced iPhone either, the eSIM is managed by your provider and that's who you need to contact. And since you won't be the first customer with this issue, they'll definitely have a process in place for re-provisioning the eSIM.

To put differently, you'd have the same eSIM transfer issue with any dead phone from any other manufacturer. This has nothing to do with Apple.

And my point from the previous thread still stands, if you need this iPhone so badly you should have a known working fallback solution for situations like this. I keep my older still working Apple devices in a drawer as backups.

Have you tried hard restarting the "dead" iPhone (the one that "died" on the charger)?
I guess there were some others here in that forum that reported apparently "dead" iPhones, however they could be brought back to life with a hard restart.
I was about to suggest the same thing. My daughter’s 13 also experienced the same issue about 1 month ago. (Wondering if it’s a software glitch) I thought for sure that I had to go to the store to repair but did a bit a research and after a few attempts was able to do a hard restart which brought the phone back to life!

Update:

Took it to Apple store and it was bricked. They don't know why but just took it as a return and I'm using the replacement phone now. They were able to call AT&T to get it activated.

I didn't get mad as I know it wasn't their fault. They returned the other one and now I have a working phone. Total pita but at least I have a working phone again.

I’ve had 3G, 3GS, 4, 4s, 5, 5s, 6, 6sP, 7P, X, XR, 12PM, 13PM and now 14PM.

I’ve never had any issue besides my iPhone 5 and 12Pm taking slanted photos; immediately replaced both, no wait or loaner.

You had 2 go down in rapid succession, 1 is rare enough; but 2? Maybe it’s the way you’re using them.

Reactions: that be me
Well I've had two that have died inexplicably for no reason, so I think its garbage. And the eSIM is moronic and now forces me to go into Apple to have a phone that can make calls.
eSIM has been a nightmare. Had to go to Verizon several times when I just stopped having the ability to make or receive calls, which is always good for business.

Good you’re having working phone at last! So, no explanation at all what could have happened to the two bricked phones? Are you keeping the replacement and no plans for other phone?

eSim activation hasn’t been great in the USA. But was very simple using O2 via esim dot net. Chose my data and voice package on their website, received a QR code and it activated within moments. Was no need to call anyone.

What about going into your carriers account and activating esim this way? I do thos with Verizon since you can activate esim on Verizon. Just providing the imei2 will do it. Not sure how other carrier does it.

I've done that, but it borked my phone several times. When it works, it works though. Sometimes it'll put the phone in a perpetual "activation queue" and only Verizon can fix it. eSIM definitely has some issues.

Yea for some. Can’t say that i had because i never had issues with esim. Yet
