I emailed mobileme customer support yesterday as emails, calendar events and contacts would only get pushed to my phone if i deleted my account and re-added it every time i wanted it to sync new contacts or calendar events (with mal you could click the application but it would not push no matter what unless i deleted the account off the phone and put the info back in.)

Here is what the guy from mobile me emailed me back:

Dear Al,

My name is Kyle from MobileMe Support. I understand that your iPhone is having trouble syncing properly. I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you.

To resolve this issue, please use the following steps below.

1.) Push the Home button on the iPhone.

2.) From the Home menu tap the Settings icon and then select Fetch data.

3.) Toggle Push to off and Power cycle the phone(power off iPhone for 30 seconds to a minute. Then turn the phone back on.)

4.) When at the Home menu tap Settings, then select Mail, Contacts, and Calendars. From here select the Mobile Me account. At the very bottom go ahead and delete the Account.

5.) Add the account back to the iPhone. Make sure to use "@me.com" and then from the Home screen select Settings and then Fetch data. Turn the option for Push back on and power cycle the phone once again.

6.) When the iPhone starts back up, send a test email to yourself. It can take a few minutes to arrive. Once it does, go ahead and send another test email and it should almost be instantaneous.

Once you have verified this, go ahead and delete the email messages you sent from the iPhone. If you are logged into me.com, please sign out while you delete the email messages on the iPhone. You should then log back in to see if the email messages are still there.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please reply to this message.

Sincerely,

Kyle
MobileMe Support

Hope this helps

Kyle is a busy guy

I have the exact same problem and received the same reply from "Kyle". It didn't work and I am still unable to sync anything. Calendar and contacts don't sync unless I recreate the account, and Mail only ever pulls emails when I open the application.

I told them that but haven't heard anything back.

I refuse to delete my account or restore my phone yet another time!

So push doesn't work

Here is what I got:

-------------------

Dear x,

This is Michael from MobileMe support.

Thank you for contacting Apple about your iPhone not being able to push. Apple is currently investigating push email on iPhone and hopes to resolve this issue. I've provided the details of your report to the MobileMe Specialist team. As always, Apple appreciates your feedback as part of its efforts to resolve issues and improve the MobileMe experience. Apple won't contact you again about this issue unless we have questions about the information you provided.

The following steps should allow you to being able to push mail to your iPhone, this can be done by changing the settings on the iPhone to turn off push and set fetch to every 15 minutes.

If you need assistance with a different MobileMe issue, please visit this website to find helpful information and the form for submitting questions to us:

Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to assist you. You may receive an AppleCare survey email; any feedback you provide would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Michael

So basically MobileMe does not work as advertised.

I spent over an hour talking on the live mobile me chat.

Got another email asking me to send 3 emails to myself and check if they get saved in the sent box.

Just finished talking to mobile me live chat support.

I have come to conclusion that mobile me right now is useless. Completely useless. I got told the same thing, a specialist team will look into it and i can periodically check back for updates.

Thank God i didn't pay for this, it doesn't sync calender events, doesnt sync contacts or bookmarks and doesnt push emails, SO WHAT ARE THEY CHARGING £59 FOR???

I agree. I don't know how they can charge for this product. This is a big letdown.

I really think apple dropped the ball on this one and i for one will be more cautious about apple products.

It's funny how someone got the reply of you can get push by turning off push and clicking fetch data every 15mins......thats not push.

Hi folks, here is the latest email i received form apple:

Dear Al,

This is Rick again with the Apple Mobile Me Support team. Thank you for the quick reply with the test results. I appreciate your patience in allowing me to investigate this matter. Once again, I apologize for any frustration this has caused you.

After researching our data base further I found that your Mobile Me account XMPP nodes are not provisioned, along with your push not working. This is a known issue.

Apple is currently investigating the Push mail not working, and XMPP nodes not provisioned issue and hopes to resolve this issue soon. I've provided the details of your report to the MobileMe Specialist team. As always, Apple appreciates your feedback as part of its efforts to resolve issues and improve the MobileMe experience. Apple won't contact you again about this issue unless we have questions about the information you provided.

As a work around I suggest that you turn your Push off, and set Fetch New Data to 15 Minutes.

Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to assist you. You may receive an AppleCare survey email; any feedback you provide would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely
Rick

Well seems like there is no point in trying to get push, might aswell just wait a few months hoping for an update.

Is there an email address I can email mobileme support?

I don't like the live chat experience as they have been of no help to me yet.

Push has not worked since I started my free trial a couple of weeks ago and live support can't seem to help. They keep wanting me to sync with my computer. What the heck does that have to do with push on my iphone???

Thanks,
Brian

Weird. Sucks for you guys. MobileMe works perfectly fine for me. I haven't had any problems since launch day other than the missing "send file" button from the idisk thing on me.com...

Yeah, I haven't had any problems either. Everything seems to work as it should. I hope they do work it our for other guys because it can/should work.

I love the form letter responses from Apple. They just change the name of the support "specialist" from Kyle to Michael to Al to [insert name here] to keep it interesting.

Definitely a beta product.

UPDATE

My contacts and calendar events ARE NOW APPEARING ON IPHONE WITHIN TEN MINUTES :)

Email still has no push at all.

I think when apple said only 1% of customers were effected they forgot to put in the word NOT before effected.

I was at the genuis bar yesterday and the guy said 50% of his appointments are for mobile me doing nothing.

I think the problem lies in PUSH, you know, the system that is setup way cleaner than RIMM that Steve took some time to poke jabs about? Yeah, it's not working Steve. I turned off PUSH awhile ago to save battery, fetch does a good job for me on contacts and calendars, I have the email account but don't use it, I will if I decided to pay for it but I don't want to get that email address out knowing I won't use it 60 days from now.

Right now I don't know if I plan to keep 'the Cloud' or not. With backup still taking 30 minutes to do maybe I should keep M.Me just to make sure my contacts and calendars don't get lost when 2.xx screws my phone.

If Tuesday shows up without a stable, awesome 2.1 I'm going back to 1.1.4
