I recently was looking at old Apple results and one fact really shocked me.

In Apple's 1st Fiscal quarter of 2000 (26th September 1999 - 1st January 2000) Apple sold 1,377,000 Macintoshes. Although Steve Jobs actually announced 1,350,000 at Macworld 2000, this figure was compiled with more accuracy. It was also announced that it was the highest number of computers sold in one quarter in Apple's history.

What is remarkable is that figure would remain the highest for over six years! Apple finally surpassed that number for a quarter in their 4th Fiscal quarter of 2006 (2nd July - 30th September 2006) when Apple sold 1,610,000 computers.

In the period shortly after Steve Jobs returned to Apple, the company was consistently selling over 1,000,000 Macs every quarter, but in the Oct-Dec 2000 quarter, Apple cleared it's inventory and recorded a $195,000,000 loss and sold only 659,000 computers.

The number then remained below 900,000 for four years until the Oct-Dec 2004 quarter when Apple finally got above the 1,000,000 mark again with 1,046,000 computers. Since then Apple has sold over a million every quarter and has sold over 2 million every quarter since the Jul-Sep 2007 quarter.
