The overall consensus on this device is that it won't be coming this year. Very rare to see leaks for a product more than a year away.

I don't think these watches have a big future... I would say there is a high chance Apple won't release them at all..
Agree, and Tim doesn't seem to think that a watch is the right way to go according to his interview at D11 (german blogpost I read that). But he likes the fuel band and I think they will bring some kind of wearable that doesn't exist yet.

It just looked ugly to me. I am sure they will do something and it will look better than Samsung's attempt at the market.
Yeah. The fact you have to have a Samsung phone to use it will really throw people off.
Also, at launch, I believe it will only connect to the Note 3 and the Galaxy Note 10.1. Have an S4? That's tough luck.

We'll just wait for the experts (Apple, of course) to create a technology enabled watch.
I don't know if I will use Apple's product. I have not worn a watch in decades. They would have to make an exceptional product to make me want to wear one again.

The first guy (Paul Deneve) is the former chief executive officer of luxury fashion. Apple is wise enough to know that people will not wear an ugly bulky device on their wrists even if it has 100's of features. A watch is fashion accessory first, a time telling device second. I'm sure Paul's luxury design experience paired up with Jony Ive's simple and elegant design sense will yield a great looking watch.
The second guy was obviously hired to provide some input and feedback about biometrics on the "iwatch". It could include a pedometer, heart rate monitor, features like the nike fuel band.
How long will it take to release this so called iWatch?
Design needs to be nailed down to the point where if you see it from far away you can recognize it as a Apple watch.
The Battery life has to last more than a measely day like the Samsung gear.
It needs to offer what other wrist worn devices like the fuel band and Jawbone UP (or whatever the heck it's called) have to offer.
Pull off all these aspects correctly and Apple may just blow another market wide open. (Of course 3 years down the road Apple will again be accused of not innovating)

Well he did say the wrist is "interesting and natural". I don't recall him saying that he didn't like the idea of a watch.
I would not expect any leaks. Apple products leak when they have to make 30 million of them before launch. It's hard to keep 30 million of anything a secret. This would be more like the original iPhone announcement. They can announce a few months early because it's an entry in a new market, and ramp up production after.

This is almost certainly wrong. If they wanted to do this they could have done it years ago. Think about the iPad intro. In order to enter a new space Apple believes it has to do critical things better. It's going to be small. And it's only going to do a very few things. And it has to do them better than what we have or it won't ship.
The people they have recently hired are not the people you would hire if you were almost ready to ship either by the way. I think they scrapped and are starting over. Which is probably a good thing.

It's got a magical ring to it. The watch concept is still unproven right now. Apple would be better off creating a watch phone and then possibly cannibalizing some of its iPhone market. The current market for 2nd screen watches is kinda small right now.

Probably because it isn't happening. Or at least I don't see it happening. Smart Watches are a dumb idea.
You are absolutely right. I'm just wondering. Samsung should have known that going first is a really bad idea. I'm still puzzled why they even released the Gear.
There was no sign that Apple (or anyone) would release one and there was lots of time for Samsung to improve on battery life, lagginess and UI design.
(The three most critical points in my opionion).
He said that younger people today mostly don't wear watches any more since the phone is their watch. With accessoires like watches and glasses, people want to express their personal style, so it would need some exeptional strong argument to make them wear such a piece of technology. He said that in the context of Apple aiming to "enrich" people's lives instead of doing things just because they are technologically possible.
And this is why we don't have an "iWatch" yet. Apple knows it has to be something special/different to get people to buy it and wear it. And they also know that when it comes to wearables fashion/style plays a big part in a persons buying decisions.
The Galaxy Gear looks to me like a product with not a lot of thought around it. It looks like Samsung was more concerned about being first (amongst the big players) than about getting a really good product out there. And it also plays into Samsung's mentality of flooding the market with products/features in the hopes that the tech press and wider media will equate that to innovation.
