Apple have posted a lengthy response to their fine from the EU today; while they make some points it really shows, in my opinion, how much Apple have forgotten what their primary business is - selling hardware.
Their whole attitude to iOS completely neglects that the Mac exists. The reason the Mac App Store isn’t a success is because alternative, better, options exist. The only reason the iOS App Store is a success is there is literally not another option.
Also, their:
“Today, developers compete on a level playing field on the App Store. Apps are reviewed according to a comprehensive set of rules, which are designed to protect our users.”
A level playing field (unless you’re Apple who don’t follow the rules, or Netflix / Microsoft who get special commission rates), and a comprehensive set of rules which are unequally and inconsistently applied, and frequently allow scams through.
An interesting read none the less.
