I know the microUSB connection won't allow for a jailbroken external HDD for access to media files instead of streaming.

However, I have a second "Time Capsule" connected to my Pioneer VSX-33 for internet radio and am wondering if connecting the Apple TV 2 to the "Time Capsule" via ethernet would allow for access to the "Time Capsule" HDD, acting as an NAS of sorts.

Possible?

No, it won't work. You need iTunes running on a Mac/PC to access content over the network.
Clearly you don't need iTunes open to access content stored on a NAS. The OP used the word "jailbroken", so I think we can assume XBMC is a possibility, or even the Firecore player app if they ever get round to releasing it.

The OP never really says that he has jailbroken his Apple TV, he merely states that he knows that a jailbroken Apple TV can't use the USB port for storage. However, if you introduce jailbreaking then, yes, I misspoke about needing iTunes.

Jailbroken. Yes, you can't otherwise.

ATV Flash Black is supposed to release NAS support soon, not sure if SeasonPass does, yet I was wondering if there were other ways. As I have an extra "Time Capsule", I was hoping to use it to store ripped BD/SD DVD's/Music/etc connected directly via the ethernet ports of the ATV2 and "Time Capsule" (doubtful) or through WiFi. Thanks!

And, lo, Firecore have release their player app in the latest beta of ATVFlash Black. Importantly, this enables AFP support so streaming from a TimeCapsule should work fine (SMB on a TC/Airdisk is a real bottleneck as many threads over on the iOS XBMC forum show). You'll certainly be able to stream from the TC to the ATV if they're on the same network (either wifi or wired connection).

Depending on how the TC is set up you may be able to connect directly as you mention: this would mean the TC is acting as a router providing network connectivity to your ATV, as a bonus you should be able to stream from the TC's hard drive.

You rock! I just downloaded the beta. I have all the ATV2 SHSH blobs saved, so I'll use the 4.2.1 untethered until the 4.3 untethered jailbreak is released.

Yep that's what I'm doing - although my ATV tends to be on or "sleeping" all the time, the tethered jailbreak is a real pain if you do have to disconnect the ATV from power for any reason.

Feel ya on that, and not having a portable Mac in the house bringing down my 6-Core pro and display just to jailbreak 4.3 is insane.

Besides, what does 4.3 offer over 4.2.1 aside from MBL/NBL, etc? Netflix gained 5.1 though so that's the only downside right?

I believe 4.2 offers AirPlay, or at least I can with it now as my iPad and iPhone AirPlay to my aTV2 running 4.2 (4.1.1). I can live without the rest.

I have everything working, my aTV2 connected via ethernet to my "Time Capsule", configured the "Time Capsules" HDD for sharing, and I use Finder to simply drag and drop m4v's into the HDD. Using XBMC I configured SMB to point to that HDD, and I can play the m4v's with only ONE issue. This seems to be a prominent issue with many running XBMC. My Pioneer VSX-33 which supports AC3/AAC/ALC/You name it, decodes the m4v files into 2-channel stereo. The same m4v stream beautifully in full surround sound from my 2010 6-Core Mac Pro. Somewhere in XBMC there is a bit streaming or codec issue. I've read through all the XBMC forums for WEEKS, updated to nightly builds, used optical in addition to HDMI - you name it I've done it. It doesn't make sense.
