AppleTV - buy now or wait?

I just got it a few weeks ago, and absolutely love it. There is no reason for apple to issue one with larger capacity, because of the streaming features. I personally hope Apple will do a software update to increase the functionality and video support (the last one is unlikely though)..

I bought on Saturday and I'm glad already that I did. You can always wait out the next new thing, or you can enjoy using the product now. I doubt there will be any physical hardware changes soon, and you'll get any software update obviously. For me, I waited until after MacWorld, be after it was apparent nothing was going to happen in regards to ATV, I'm glad I pulled the trigger.
I wanted to buy an Apple TV last Saturday (1/10/09) here in Vienna from a Premium Reseller and they told me that there are non in stock and they wont get any new ones! The guy told me it wasn't too much of a success and Apple will abandon it...

If I knew that Apple was going to abandon the Apple TV I'd buy the 160GB model tomorrow (and hope that they did the right thing and sort out some of the bugs).
However, I absolutely love the Apple TV despite the severe problems I have with mine (I have to restart mine almost on a daily basis because it's so unreliable). If Apple brings out a new model I'll be very keen to upgrade.
Knowing whether to buy now or not is a difficult one. If you buy the 160GB model and would be 1) upset if a new model comes out and 2) unable to afford to upgrade to a newer model, then I would say wait. If you wouldn't mind not having the latest model, or could afford to buy a new model despite having recently bought the old model, then I'd say go ahead and buy now.
I think the Apple TV is worth the money just for it's movie rental functionality. I have opted against buying a blue-ray player and discs, or subscribing to movie channels with my satellite TV company, and we just choose movies on the Apple TV. The Apple TV has also become my main 'source' for my hifi for listening to music. I have lots of children's TV programs too which gives me the ability to limit what type of program they watch, and I can avoid them watching advertising.

Don't listen to those fools at the store most of them don't even follow Apple. From what I was reading Apple is trying to work out a deal with the major movie studios to start selling the movies on Apple TV, when that happens thats when they'll really push Apple TV
I just bought the 40GB model this evening and am already having a blast with it. I had previously ripped my DVD collection to my IMac and they stream effortlessly thru the ATV ... I can't tell the difference in audio/video difference vs. playing the actual dvd's. Like the previous posts -- go ahead and buy one, you won't regret it!
Another vote for getting one. I have the 40 gig as well, and it's great! It's particularly handy if you get sick and have to lay on the couch for days on end. It's one of the best things I've ever bought for myself. Oh- and you can get rid of cable too. 
This is a stupid noob question, but I've had my ATV all of three days, so . . .
What's the best reference for how to rip DVDs on your Mac and store them so they can be played on the ATV. I have a 1TB external drive on my Mac and iTunes library resides there. Ideally, I'd like to rip existing DVDs to that and play through ATV .
