AppleTV - lack of videos on Itunes - is anything to be done?

OK, I love my Apple TV. I seem to be one of the only people in the world who does. I use it like crazy to watch home videos I've put into my Itunes and synced to my Apple Tv. I use it as a jukebox for my itunes playlists. It is great (except it runs really hot and will probably burn my house down someday!).

And I love to rent movies through AppleTV.

BUT BUT BUT . . . the movie selection and tv series selection sucks. NO new season of Dexter. No District 9. No Kung Fu Panda. In fact, not a whole lot of movies being added. The ones that get added are slow to be added.

Come on. I want good selection. It is a problem when Hilton Hotel PPV has better movie choices than I do on AppleTV. (please no jokes about hotel porn, I mean real movies).

Who do I complaint to? Is there any hope this will get better?

This is the movie studios fault. They are refusing to support the online business model. It is outrageous and I am starting to really hate them.

Apple is doing what it can to add wider selection.

District 9 is available on iTunes. It’s not available to rent yet because the DVD/Blu-ray/Purchase-only period hasn’t expired.

Kung Fu Panda is made by Dreamworks Animation, and will likely never be on iTunes because Jeffrey Katzenberg and Steve Jobs hate each other.

Katzenberg is the CEO of Dreamworks Animation and previously ran Disney animation. Jobs and him squabbled over Pixar.

There’s nothing you, Apple or anyone can do about it. The studios (except maybe Disney, which Jobs is the single largest shareholder) are trying to protect their current business model that centers around DVD revenue.

If you’re going to write anybody, write the studio which distributes the specific title you want.

Strictly the studio, also there agreements vary depending on the platform, The Itunes store had to wait to rent Angel's and Demons, the Zune Marketplace had it for rental immediately but not for sale. The Studios are squeezing the Kiosks too making Redbox wait a month to get their hands on the A Titles.

Problem is in my opinion the Physical media maket is dying. I know I'm going either Digital Downloads, or buying the disk and encoding it. The same is happenning with Blu ray. Over the last few weeks Best Buy has had tremendous sale prices on many blu rays as low as $9.95 and still there were tons of copies available. After accessing huge DVD Libraries people are either out of space, or don't want to own everything they watch anymore. I know thats true of me about the only thing I buy anymore are TV Dvd's .

so true....I stopped buying DVDs a year ago or so. I realized that I rarely watched them again to make it worthwhile. When I rent a dvd now I encode it to my Macs so I can have it handy for a trip or to watch out on the patio on my MBP or iPad.

Long gone are the days of purchasing used dvds/bluRays instead of renting them.

I own Kung Fu Panda... purchased through my appleTV... Really many studios release their films for limited amounts of time...sounds like KFP isn't available anymore. There are movies I have added to my wish list when they were available, but they aren't now, but still show on my wish list. It is the fault of the movie studios....I will share in your hate...

Wonderful....not only are you stupid enough to admit that you steal DVD content on this forum, you apparently don't feel that your pirating DVD content is something wrong!!

Renting a DVD does not give you any legal right to own the content...by definition you are RENTING the DVD content only...not for permanent inclusion in your own video library. Buy the damn DVD and then rip it you idiot!!!

Not that buying a DVD either gives you any legal right in the US, but I'm on the side of Fair Use, provided I've PURCHASED the content first!
