AppleTV rentals with subtitles

Does anyone knows how to find out if a particular movie from iTunes rental includes subtitles. My family is used to watching movies with subtitles and we cannot do without it. Tried renting my first movie last week and i couldn't figure out how to get the subtitles out like on a DVD.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Subtitles

I haven't seen any facility for subtitles. Did you try enabling close-captioning on your TV? I honestly doubt that will be supported, but it is worth a try.

For my own content, I've had to "hard burn" my subtitles into the video since there doesn't appear to be the ability to view subtitles, even with QuickTime files with subtitling.

Thanks for the update. Looks like i won't be able to get any subtitles from the movie rental in iTunes. Converting the movies with subtitles to AppleTV format is really a hassle.

Haha...Yup. I wished i had a 500TB TC!! Thanks for pointing that out to me. Stupid of me to let slip on that...

If you rent the movie from iTunes, on your computer, unfortunately the info to tell you if the movie has closed captioning does not appear to be displayed. However, if you rent the movie from the TV, in the Movie Details section there will be a small icon there if the movie contains closed captioning. Unfortunately it appears that very few movies currently have closed captioning. You should give Apple polite feedback on this issue so they can try to put pressure on the movie studios to include closed captioning in more movies.

Thanks. It's frustrating to watch a movie without subtitles especially with small kids running around playing. Their noise drowns out the movie and sometimes, we miss out a chunk of the conversation..

Check out my post on DeafMac.org which explains how to do a search for all subtitled/closed captioned movies on the iTunes Store. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be a similar way to search directly from the Apple Store. You'll have to use iTunes on your Mac to search and then remember the title you want to rent.

Yes, the selection is limited, but as of a couple weeks ago, there were about 70 movies with closed captions, but I just checked and it's gone up to 87.
