Does anybody know if :apple:TV's update will support iPhoto Events?

I just picked up an :apple:TV and noticed how poor the photo implementation really is.

It's almost impossible to find a certain group of photos unless you create albums for every single one.

Support for Events will solve this immediately. It would be nice if :apple:TV used an events view (thumbnails) instead of titles.

just wondering, what size apple tv did you get 40 gb. or 160 gb, I can't decide which size to get.

I'm not sure, as he didn't really show the "My" functionality during the keynote, but I can't imagine that they wouldn't have included support for events in the new upgrade.

At least I really hope so as its how I organize my iPhoto library since upgrading to iLife '08.

I got 160GB and I would have gotten more if it were available. I plan on buying TV shows and essentially turning my AppleTV into my 'personal tv station' ... most of the time, what's on TV are reruns so in this case, I'll be watching reruns of only my favorite shows, new episodes as they become available and tons of podcasts. So the more HDD space available the better.

On the other hand, if you don't plan on buying permanent videos and just streaming most of your stuff, then you're good with the 40GB, streaming is just as fast as having it on the AppleTV's drive.

The current AppleTV has iPhoto events support. It's how you can view your entire library. The events are labeled by a thumbnail and the name of the event.

The new ATV software will support events. They will show up as a list with a thumbnail preview and parade just like what was seen for .Mac gallery albums.

ooooooh... I'm itching for the update... two weeks? lol

So best case scenario, we'll see it next Wednesday... worst case scenario, on the morning of Tuesday following that...

Can you explain how. When I go to Photos is just plays them in whatever order it likes (Guessing by date). Do I have to Sync them to get this? I stream everything on my ATV.

I'm assuming it's like on .Mac and Flickr photos. The :apple:TV picks up the events structure and displays them as titles and a thumbnail on the side representative of that event.
Once selected, photos from the event will parade on the side.

Flickr's and .Mac's photos aren't stored locally and this is what happens so I don't think you'll need to with your library.

I personally like to load everything on to my AppleTV. It's yet another backup of all my music, movies and photos aside from Time Machine. Redundancy is your friend

It should be playing them in the order of the album. You can also set your slideshows to shuffle the photos...

Maybe I did something wrong, but only get two options, photos and last 12 months. Everything is setup in iPhoto with events, etc.

The only thing you have done wrong is not yet upgrade to ATV 2.0. iPhoto Events are not supported in ATV 1.1, only albums.

Good to hear, I was confused by post #5 as it states events are currently supported.

Are you sure you're not talking about albums? I'm on Apple TV 1.1, iLife 08 and Leopard, and I had to make albums to get them to show up in the list.

Smartalbums?

Will smart albums show up? For example, I have one for the last 90 days of pictures. Is it just events that do not work well?

Smart Albums do indeed show up although that won't matter in just a week and a half when Take 2 shows up on our :apple:TV's.

One more item I'm curious about is that as a photographer, I have all my pro photos in Aperture and my family and friends photos in iPhoto. Am I able to sync both or sync one and stream the other?
