Well, I hooked up my Apple TV to my Surround Sound using the optical out. However, when it uses this I get an echo because the sound also still comes from the TV.

Other then muting the TV, is there a way to shut off the sound coming out of the TV?

Many televisions have a way to turn the speakers off in their settings menu. I do this with my Sony TV and route all audio through my digital A/V receiver, including digital audio out from the TV to the receiver.

I don't have enough digital inputs/outputs to have everything going out my surround sound system.

Isn't possible to select the source for the sound just like in my PS3 and shut down the sound from the HDMI out from the ATV2?
