Hello, just got a new ibook and noticed it came with apple works. I want to keep as closer to factory settings as possible but having Microsoft Office is there any reason not to delete this app? Reason I am asking is because it has such a small HD that i wanna make some space. I guess the question is... does it do anything Office can't do? (If i switched app it would be for pages)

AppleWorks has word processing that is much less feature-filled than Word, and a very minimal spreadsheet, but its drawing, painting, and database components might be of use to you. I have both applications and I always head for AppleWorks when I have a drawing or diagram to make.
I suggest that you launch AppleWorks, create a document of each type, just to see what the tools look like, so you'll have more of an opinion about whether it is worth the disk space to you.

Back it up to a CD, or whatever, and delete it... if you don't want to use it, it's no point in having it on your HD. But backing up makes it easier to reinstall than using the system restore disks, if you change your mind... 
On the other hand: There are plenty of stuff to delete before AppleWorks if you want to save space... check out (especially page 2 of) this thread...

Yes, but if the OP is just gonna delete the applications folder, then backing that up makes it much easier to drag it back, then going through all the steps using the software restore disk(s). Not a big deal, maybe, but I just wanted to mention the possibility...mkrishnan said:

Appleworks handles Chinese input and editing MUCH better than Word. I mention this because it might be true of other things, as well - things you don´t necessarily need or want to do now, but where the need might arise in the future.

I not only pulled AppleWorks off my iBook that I got in summer 2005, I removed all of iLife excepting iTunes. Mail also went, as Entourage is far better.
Added iWork for Pages, which does the desktop publishing thing quite well.
Need a database? Use FileMaker which sports an Office-like interface.

My solution was to get an iMac!
After moving my photo library to my iMac, my iBook now has a very happy amount of free space again. Okay, ahem, it might not have been the most pragmatic solution. Err, yes. And I just realized I might not have installed AppleWorks when I went to Tiger. And I just realized this... what... nine months into Tiger?
