Hi guys just a couple of questions the first questions is in relation to what the subject header is..


Ok ive got my first ever mac its a i mac g3 400 its got a 6 gig hard drive no firewire just usb well my first question is this iam running osx 10.2.6 hope thats right and i want to back up some apps that are in the applacations folder is it posible for me to copy the folder over to a windows system and then burn them onto a cd for safe keeping..

question 2 is regarding the hard drive..

since ive only got 6 gig hard drive can i change the hard drive for a 40 gig ibm deskstar thats in a spare pc thats lieing around at the moment if i can how do i get osx on it what do i need to format the drive etc etc please note i have at the present only a basic understanding of the i mac unlike my pc.. but the i mac is starting to center stage much more fun to play with

Question 1 is yes, though I haven't done this personally. I've only stored document files. (safe way is to test the app by copying one back onto your imac and running it)

Question 2 is yes, if the drive fits. Once installed, you can start-up from the OSX cd, and use the disk tools, (in the menu bar) to format the drive. You can use same CD to install the system. Again, if it doesn't work, just return the original drive back inside the imac.
