Applications!! How the heck can you keep up?

There are soooo many & if anyone is like me, i dont search every day for new pps available. I sometimes read about certain ones etc but I want to know if there is a simple straightfoward way to see whats happening without spending hours searching them. There is so much to choose from.

Has AppSniper resolved the super long iPhone backup times issue? I loved the app but had to delete it when I realized that was the cause (and so far no problems since).

The most recent version has an option in the Configuration screen to clear the icon cache. If you do that before backing up, back up times are normal. The developer recognizes that this is a temporary fix and promises a more efficient method for the next update.

I've started using it again.

There are two things that I hate about AppSniper

1. it doesn't have a search function, because most of the times you'll hear of an app but think it's too expensive, so you want it to track down until it drops in price..well you have to search for it throughout AppSnipper manually. Total waste of time

2. It doesn't do a good job when you are switching between screen as in you always have to start from the top to bottom when looking for an app

So I haven't used it because of that

My only solution is read blogs or websites like:

They always offer reviews or a roundup of the best apps

I feel your pain!

Yappler.com is another site that is really good for searching apps. What I like is that it lets you sort within a category by rating, which helps weed out the less desirable apps. It also provides some video reviews.

If you have a specific application you want to find in AppSnipper, go to the Snipe page. There you have to use search to locate the applications you want it to watch for a price drop or just to watch for any reason. You can use that to search for the application you are interested in.

That bug was fixed in the most recent version.

As far as AppSniper's icon cache goes, is that really the reason my iPhone takes four freaking hours to backup? I'm turning that sucker off!

It does have a search function...Click on Snipe and type in what you want, then you have two option. Save it under watch list or snipe it for the price you want to pay. You can search here until your blue in the face.

Your other point I totally agree with and its a pain in the ars but its still the best app for what it does.

I also was wondering about backups and will clear catch next time to see if that fixes the issue.

It definitely is quite a challenge to try and keep up with all of the apps that are released- I have to at least skim through them all each day for the Podcast, which can be quite a task some days... on average there's about 200 newly available apps each day, I think I've seen over 400 once (though after a few days of much lower than average releases). It's mind-boggling that there are so many apps being created continuously... I keep waiting for developers to 'hit the wall' and just run out of decent ideas, but things just keep going strong.

I use a combination of AppSniper and AppShopper- I'll usually skim through AppSniper and make note of ones that sound interesting and then skim through again on AppShopper (which is nice since they show the first few lines of the description in the list view...) where I can look at the apps more in-depth. There are a few new app-viewing/sorting apps that have come out this last week that I'm looking into as well, which is perfect timing since that's what our 'Core Topic' this week on the Podcast will be...

Whats the point of trying to keep up? All of the best apps are usually talked about so a quick search or view of forums will easily tell me which apps I should be looking at. I dont even want to look at a bunch of crap apps anyway.

Most of the good apps make their way to the top 25 in their category, but a few less popular specialty apps require research and looking at reviews before deciding which works best.

MacRumors top apps you have threads are a great way to find less popular but great apps, like Galcon (something like 75th most popular in the strategy game section), not an app that I would've checked out were I just browsing the app store.
