I am possibly looking to leave Android, and get the iPhone 5, but only once the jailbreak is out. I know there is no date given to when a jailbreak is due, but do you know a ballpark approx time frame ? Are we looking at weeks, or months away for the iPhone5 jailbreak ?

Nobody knows! Last year, it took about 4.5-5 months for the jailbreak to come out. That does not really set any trend. It all depends on the complexity/implementation of the found exploits and time dedicated by the jailbreak team.

Thanks, so I shouldn't expect anything until the new year. Sounds good, will plan around that.

It will be in the month of October.

On a Monday.

In a leap year.

After the first frost of the year.

Sometime in the morning.

It's funny how all these nerds in the topic responds with unserious replies.

I was the same a month ago - asking for a timeframe.
The thing , and the only thing you need to know is that they will release it when it's ready.
If you take a flashlight and point it towards them they will only meet exposure and resistance. Leave it be and follow the blogs.

Have a nice day.

You can't expect people to write serious replies when the same question was asked tons of times even a month ago.
There are atleast 2-3 same threads as this in every pages.

I've been jailbreaking mine and familly members ios devices since limera1n 4.0, I now own an iPhone 5 and one thing I've noticed is that there doesn't seem to be much talk about an iPhone 5 untethered jailbreak. It seems the JB community has gone really quiet. Yes it took a long while for the A5 untethered JB to be released, but at least we knew early on who were the key players working on it, i.e Pod2g. This time around I'm not sure who is key to the development of an A6 untethered JB:confused: unless someone wants to share some info...?

I am missing my JB, I didn't think I would with the iPhone 5, but I'm noticing now there are certain tweaks I'm finding hard to live without which made using my iPhone 4 a pleasure.

-ask to send
-ask to call!!
-applocker!!
-3g unrestrictor
-lockinfo
-folder enhancer

Straight from the Horses's mouth. 1/5/2013.

If you are using pod2g as an example, he was unusually sharing in his progress on the jailbreak he engineered.

In all the other cases (other jailbreaks) the hackers have provided very few updates.
The best way to keep up to date on what info is released is to follow their Twitter accounts.

When people post the same questions over and over and over and over you have to make the threads interesting somehow. The answer is always the same regardless of the device and regardless of the release of IOS. Even newbies should be able to notice a trend...

If there was a fixed calendar for future JB's then it would be stickied in this subforum.

Seems to be less and less interest in JB'ing iOS. Is that due to it's increasing complexity, or small rewards? There are still JB issues in iOS 5.1.1 that have been around since iOS4 and were never fixed. I don't have high hopes for the future of Jail Breaking when it takes 6-7 months after an OS release to crack it. Then, in just a few more months the cycle repeats.

A significant portion of jailbreaking was due to requiring an unlock.
Now that IMEI unlocks are so cheap, the jailbreak community has shrunk significantly.

But it has matured so much! :(

I know that does not account for much, I bet if Cydia got a better UX it would get more regular joe's and jenny's interested in staying jailbroken, even though they might want help from someone else to do the actual jailbreak (because of panic)

True that unlocks are possible through methods other than jailbreaking, but I don't think the community has shrunk necessarily.

If jailbreaking becomes impossible to the point where it takes in excess of 6+ months after the release of a new hardware/software for a new jailbreak to be released, then I am never upgrading to a new iPhone and my subsequent purchase will be an Android device.

I hate that so much too, but I won't be contained.

I don't think there's less interest in jailbreaks... it's just that there's so many incredible alternatives now. Some of the new Android devices are amazing. And now the new Windows Phone 8 offerings...

Well, it's all just sources of distraction.

iOS 6+ will see a JB just as the previous have, eventually.

There is a huge difference between a open source os and a closed source. That is the biggest limitation. Hackers have explore 700+ mb of data looking for the smallest exploit. Jailbreaking and rooting are very different even though the out come is simular.

Maybe jailbreak is not as popular for a couple of reasons ? #1; the hard core jb crowd, may have just moved on to Android phones now ? With cool phones like the Galaxy SIII...Note II...Nexus 4...#2; And iPhone5 owners are just happy with iOS6 as is, not a brig crowd screaming for a jb ?

Humm...
I run with a hard core jailbreak crowd - none of us has moved to Android
And I have an iPhone 5, not very happy with stock iOS6 (but I will wait patiently for a jailbreak)

When the new tools are released, we can check the number of downloads then decide if there is or is not a big crowd screaming for a jailbreak.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but last time around... with the 5.1.1 JB, weren't there 300K downloads first day?

I know, personally, I donated $20 via paypal to pod2g last time around.

First time I've ever sent money into any online dev type thing, so I can only imagine there's a LOT of money to be made.

Lol. Jokes if you think more than 1% ever donate.

also the money was divided between all the members of the jailbreak team based on time and effort etc. not near as much as you think. this debate comes every jailbreak the current hackers choose to ask for donations or free that's up to them they have there reasons. If another jailbreaker wants to start doing that it's up to them as well. Why not you think of it you can retire.
