I've been counting down to my "iDay" all week, which comes tomorrow--I'm trading my Blackberry Curve in towards the iPhone, since my BB is only two weeks old, I fall under the 30-day return policy with AT&T

My question is, I know that one can "mod" ones phone and add apps, and all that cool jazz in onto it... I'm not necessarily interested in ringtones, or "unlocking," since I will be legitimately activating it via AT&T. But, what apps would you guys suggest I install, and with what program, that is MAC user friendly?

I downloaded iFuntastic the other day, cuz you can upload your customized carrier logos and such (I think that's a pretty neat lil thing, as I am gonna up one so I can remember my number better), which is nice.

What I want to up, is a chat client (I use googletalk & AIM mainly), and the NES emulator, if at all possible.

Will iFuntastic do those few little things? Or do I need a totally separate program? Does DOOM work yet? What else (if anything) would I need/utilize?

I read the forums daily, and have seen nothing but positive feedback/assistance, hence me being a n00b and asking!

Careful, iFuntastic sucks and has almost, if not, bricked a couple phones. You can do a LOT more powerful things just by using FTP and getting into the phone over wireless.

Doom is concept, it does not work as a game.

NES is great, you have to find ROM files for the games, but it works pretty well!

There are two AIM apps out there, they both work well. Once you have to enter the login into each time and only allows one AIM profile. The other you create accounts, several if you wish.

As for editing images and such, like I said FTP is much better.

Start here:

http://iphone.nullriver.com/beta/

Run installer.app and install community resources. You can do so over WiFi or Edge, most apps are tiny!

If you install more than 3 additional apps you will want to install Summerboard, it lets yuo scroll the springboard so you can flick through all the installed apps.

To FTP in you will need to install SSH and BSD subsystem from installer.app in the phone. Follow these steps:

Thanks !!!

I read yesterday (after posting) that iFuntastic is NOT the way to go, so it was put in the trash yesterday... I get my phone today (finally!) and I'm going to do the installer.app thing, as well as just get some apps (NES primarily) installed and tested...

I'm like a kid at Christmas... I've never had this awesome of a tech device! lol
