Apps Preview

I wish Apple would show an video or Audio of apps kind of in the same way they let you preview music.

I say this because today we stopped by our local Apple store and their iPhones had Koi Pond on them. I was amazed at this app, the water and fish are so realistic. So tonight after seeing it I bought it on iTunes for my Touch. This wouldn't have happened had I not seen this app in action. I am sure I have passed over other great apps due to this.

i agree it's a good idea because i've had the opposite problem in that i bought an app that looked good and it turned out to be a piece of rubbish.

i'd suggest checking out the application website or youtube as a lot of apps will be previewed there. i cant see apple implementing such a thing though because previewing an application is a lot harder than just snipping a few seconds from a song.

Although im not saying its impossible i just doubt that apple would build an iphone simulator into the app store.

But apple does this for all their music video and movie content, so it should be easy enough to do for the apps.

well that depends if you want just a video preview or an interactive preview. and if its just video your after most of the times youtube will have a movie

A song or movie just plays itself, and the previews Apple has are just snips of the song or movie. Nothing new needs to be created for the preview.

In order to make a preview video of the app, you need a camera, and someone to manipulate the app so you can take a video of the app in action. Then you need to take this video, code it in a uniform format, then upload it onto a server. That's LOTS of extra work.

App developers can make videos of their apps and provide it through their website, and each app description page has links to developer's website. But no way is *Apple* going to make app preview vids.

This is exactly what we did with our Apps. But it seems that most people tend to look at the first screenshot and don't read the description which is by now the only place for a hint that "a demo video is available on the app's website". And a few screenshots can not show the whole potential of a program.

It is especially a problem for apps that are just "good looking" like Koi Pond. or ... well ... our apps for example :...

We have approx. 2000 views on youtube and approx. 2000 customers... I don't think that everyone who saw the demo video also bought one of our apps but i think most of them did.

Apple doesn't need to make a demo video for every app but an embedded youtube video view in iTunes or an extra link "Demo Video" would be nice.
(a demo version that runs for just one day would be the best.... just dreaming )

I wonder how many would have bought one of our apps if they had seen the video and not just the first screenshot....

I think every developer should make a cut down version of their application, a so called "lite version" or a demo. But instead of having to have it as a different app, like this:



Apple should have an option similar to this, where the lite version comes inside the description page of the full version:

Apple don't need to make a demo video for every app but an embedded youtube video view in iTunes or an extra link "Demo Video" would be nice.

That would probably get me to purchase more apps and stop me from purchasing lousy ones.

By the way: You did a nice job with iFight and implemented it quite well. But before seeing the video I thought it's just another lame app.

All developers have access to the simulator, and with screen capturing software its not a problem at all. The only time an issue would arise is when the user needs to use the accelerometer in the app.

By the way: You did a nice job with iFight and implemented it quite well. But before seeing the video I thought it's just another lame app.

Same here ... the iFight video really "opened my eyes" - nicely done!
