That kind of thing won't really be affected baby background app refresh. You might want to make sure those apps don't have location access or microphone access so they couldn't use that to run indefinitely in the background. Perhaps some settings within them to minimize usage as well. Alternatively you might want to close them after using them.
As you can see, Snapchat has location access while using the app and microphone access (for videos). Kik has no location access and no microphone access.
iOS pauses apps in the background within seconds, does it not? It would seem kind of useless to kill apps since I would then need to use more resources to reopen said apps.
I think something is just wrong with how long the apps stay alive in the background in iOS 10.0.2.

Could you post those all the way down to Usage and Standby?
I recently shut off my phone so those numbers are useless right now. I will do so tomorrow when I have more reliable numbers.
I could tell you right now, my phone does fine in standby. It's the usage number (usually around 5-6 hours) that somewhat bothers me.
