Hi all.

Waze's new version was released yesterday. My settings are to automatically download app updates but not use cellular data. I only use WiFi at home. I close all my apps at the end of the day and always force-close Waze when I get out of the car (it's the only app I have set to run "in the background" for pre-CarPlay compatibility). This morning I left the house and Waze was the pre-CarPlay version. Get to work, close Waze, work work work, steam whistle blows and I slide down the dinosaur's neck, fire up Waze to go home, and it's the new CarPlay compatible version. I check my updates in the App Store and Waze was updated today. Today could mean 3 AM but that doesn't explain my morning commute with the old version.

tl;dr
Does anyone feel their apps are updating over cellular if Settings are set not to?

If you go to settings|cellular and scroll down it will break down the usage of your cellular data by app, including the App Store. This usage starts counting up from when you first started using an iphone or when you last reset the statistics, so it’s possible that the data in there now is months or even years old, so just looking at what it says now probably won’t be helpful. But if you scroll down to the bottom you can click the “reset statistics” button which will reset everything to zero.

Then come back after a few days or a week or two and see if there is any data listed for “App Store”

On a side note, were you connected to WiFi at all while you were at work? Either your company’s WiFi or maybe a public hotspot near where you work?

These. For example, ATT and their ATT Wifi hotspots that seem to pop up all over town. Cable companies and their shared hotspots (I know Comcast/XFinity and Cox have these, guess others as well).
