Wondering whether this upgrade is worth it right now.
Thank you for posting this as this was exactly my question. I would like to expand on the question a little in the hopes that somebody can fill me with a little more. This is my first post and I am not sure if its OK to post a question in answer to somebody else's question, but I am sure that somebody can correct me.
I own a Macbook Pro, an iPad2, an iPad mini, and an iPhone 5c, all of which have been updated to Yosemite or iOS8.02.
I am wondering if it is worth my while to upgrade to iCloud Drive. I want to take my time thinking the matter over since the upgrade cannot be reversed.
It appears right now that only a very few third-party apps are really able to work with iCloud Drive. There are iWork apps and other native Apple apps, and then for third-party apps, there are the Readdle Suite, and Day One, and a few others that posters have listed on this thread. But, out of the thousands of apps at the app store and the Mac app store, very few of them are now set up to work with iCloud Drive. I understand that all apps would be visible on the iCloud Drive folder on the Mac, but there is no such folder on the iOS system.
Now, I don't use the iWorks very much (I prefer Microsoft Office for Mac, and, especially, Excel over Numbers). I also have a lot of third-party apps on my devices that, as of today, are not specifically iCloud Drive enabled. I have set up a few of these to sync via regular old iCloud, and that works fine. I have found that iCloud syncing works great for native Apple apps and for third-party apps that have simple databases, but not well at all for third-party apps containing complex databases. For such apps, I have 1T worth of storage on Dropbox and 10g worth on Box.
In my opinion, I am not losing much by not upgrading to iCloud drive. First of all, I don't use the native Apple apps that often. Second, the documents that I am already syncing with regular old iCloud are not set up to work with iCloud Drive. Third, the two data repositories I am now using for items coming from complex third-party databases are already working very well for me.
Or, am I missing something? If you could please let me know, I would appreciate that very much.
