So, beginning last Friday I've had an issue that many people seem to be having which is characterized by apps starting to load and then popping back to the home screen, the iPod claiming to have no content (when synced with a computer content is shown, but it can't be loaded and in the about page of the iPhone it shows 0 songs and 0 videos despite the capacity for songs/videos being gone).
I have gone through various processes including updating to 2.0.1, restoring from earlier backup, getting an entirely different phone at the genius bar, hard restores, uninstalling apps and installing them, setting up the phone as a new phone rather than a restore, and all the flukey superstitious solutions like downloading another app hoping it will reset some sort of registry.
Now I'm wondering if there is a way to archive apps? So I could delete them from my phone and my computer, but would have them available to readd? Even with syncing just one app (and I've varied which app it is, so I don't think an explicit app is to blame) onto a phone that is a fresh reset without any sort of restore, I'm still encountering this problem almost immediately. So, I'm thinking that even though I may not be syncing the other apps, their very presence in iTunes could be presenting a problem?
Also, does anyone know a way to change the name of apps? That way I could alter the names so that when they were placed in alphabetical order following a sync, they'd be in the order I like them on my phone.
The geniuses really had no help or information on this issue. Their answer was that I should just not run any apps including ones that were sold to me by Apple. Somehow this doesn't sound like a good solution!! 2.0.1 definitely didn't fix the issue. In fact, it seems like the apps won't load even more quickly now.
One last question I have is whether people are seeing this issue with the 3g phones. I'm using an original iPhone. I was planning on waiting until a larger model or further enhanced phone was available to make the jump, but if I need to change to the 3g to stop this problem, I'm willing.
