Apps won't move to Application folder

I downloaded the latest version of Adium, but it won't let me drag it from the disk image into my applications folder. This isn't the first time something like this happened.. the other day I was trying to install another app and I never got it to work. I've tried repairing permissions to no avail..

If - permissions repaired or not - the version of an app that's already in the Applications folder isn't writable by you, you won't be able to delete it in order to replace it. Also, if the Applications Folder itself isn't writable by you, you won't be able to drag anything into it.

Are you an admin?

Can you drag other things into your Applications folder, and can you delete the current Adium version from there (or simply move it elsewhere)?

I can remove and add things to the folder.. it just seems to be the new Adium from the disk image that won't move.. I can't even drag it to the desktop.

If it won't move to your desktop either, it's not a problem with the Applications folder. Are you able to select Adium? Run it from the disk image? Sometimes the background image in the folder looks like it has icons, I've tried dragging the background before (which of course doesn't work). You tried unmounting the disk image and remounting it?

Boot to "single user mode" ("command-s" at the boot chime)

You'll get a black screen with white text (you want that to happen)

Release the keys you're holding down and type "fsck -f" exactly as you see it within the quotes.

Hit "Return"

If it returns a repair (other than OK) repeat the fsck command until it returns OK.

Type "reboot" and hit "return".

....or get Disk Warrior.
