From the first look Take a Note seems to be drop-dead gorgeous. But is it also functional?
The answer is simple - yes!
Although Take A Note lacks some of the features, the app makes up for it with a brilliant design, a clean interface, excellent audio functionality and easy Wi-Fi backup.
When you launch Take A Note, the title screen is a weathered, brown leather spiral notebook cover. The tasteful brown and light yellow color scheme evokes an old drawing room or a private detective’s office.
Take A Note organizes your notes by text, audio, drawing or photo. The app also lets you set up your own categories, such as “home” or “work” or any esoteric label you wish. Although I miss YouNote’s color-coding scheme, Take A Note’s simple checklist-style categorization is a nice feature for keeping notes orderly. You can also add text comments to audio, photo or drawing notes.
You can back up your notes easily to any Mac or PC through a Wi-Fi connection. Simply create a new network connection on your desktop or laptop machine, tap the app’s Wi-Fi button, enter the username (it’s always “notes”) and password (newly generated with each use), and voila! Take A Note’s files pop open as easy-to-read text files. Perhaps best of all, this function works both ways—if you tap out notes on your laptop or desktop machine, copying them into Take A Note is a simple matter of dragging and dropping a text file into a networked folder.
Overall, the price is certainly right and Take A Note’s ease of use and a gorgeous interface makes it a truly worthy rival.

Looks like a "Pretty" app but I will stay with my old tried and true.

What sets Take a Note aside from evernote?

Dislike the waste of battery in having to upload and then download a file again with Evernote.

I like Take A Note's concept, but it doesn't have a lock or good audio quality.

I'll stick with Momo and Record for now.

Everyone is always raving about Evernote... even in other app reviews, it seems. I looked into it, but I really don't need or want a desktop application. I don't want to open yet another web-based account.

I ended up getting Take A Note simply because I liked the interface. It does what it does, and I'm happy with it. I especially make use of the photo notes.

For anyone else who has it... I just downloaded the latest update which said they added new fonts. I can't seem to find out how to select them. Any tips?

Evernote is so much more than just a notes app though, have you looked at the search system? Take a picture of a sign, a list, a menu, anything, grab a web page, whatever you like, and it will read the text within the image so you can search for it. Much more useful than any note application, I have several hundred notes and could never find half of the things I need without evernotes functionality. It use the web app system so that they can read the content of your images, not just to annoy you or make you pay to upgrade. Give it a try!

That search a picture function never works right for me. It may be because the iPhone's camera is so crappy. It may be more worth it with a macro magnifying lense. The other thing I don't like about Evernote is that you cannot make webclippings via the app, but only through the desktop version. But, I may be doing something wrong. If it had a little more function, like being able to upload and download from Google Docs, I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Some of the Take A Note features can be accessed through Settings screen. To open Settings push a button at the top left corner of “Notes” tab. You can change font style and size under Font Settings section.

As for me I bought it for gorgeous looks

Yeah, I agree about the camera but that is Apples fault not evernotes! It does work, just need a nice clear shot. Making webclippings, you cant take a part of a web page but you can either email a link to the page or a screenshot of the page to your evernote account and its there pretty much instantly.

Same with evernote, even better though you don't have to be near your mac. If I'm at a meeting without my computer I can get all my notes over the phones network, and if I send them they are there on the computer when I get home.

Just take a screenshot and email it to your evernote account, or copy and paste it into evernote. Your say you don't need desktop software, yet your way you need TextEdit!

People make out having your notes stored on a server is a bad thing, I say its good, you can get them from anywhere. I was at a meeting, I had left my iPhone in the car (stupidly in full view of anyone walking past, luckily it was there when I got back!) 5 minutes from my meeting. No laptop, I needed some information that I had left at home. I only had the rough notes in evernote (should have saved it as a pdf but hey ho) so just borrowed a computer for 2 minutes, logged on to evernote and printed the notes out. Its not some kind of evil conspiracy, its there to make life easier and more convenient!

Whats the point in THAT? If you can't even write a review you have no idea if its correct, so don't put it onto other sites saying how great it is and better than other apps which, frankly, do a lot more for a lot less money! Trying to justify an app is better than another by turning its weaknesses into strengths is like apple saying we don't really need 'copy and paste' - you are trying to convince people that they are better off with an app that can't sync remotely and you have to be on the same network as your computer.
