Hi,

When using Maps on the iPhone under firmware 1.1.2, is there a way to use an arbitrary point on the map as either the start or end point? e.g. I've manually located myself on the map, can I now say "get me from here to <destination>".

I know it's possible with Google Maps on a computer but not found a way to do similar on the iPhone.

Thanks, Alec

Bad form to reply to yourself but having now searched the internet some more I think I've come up with the answer...

Under 1.1.2 - No
Under 1.1.3 - Yes (tap the eye symbol, choose Drop Pin and then drag it as necessary)

Unfortunately I'm running 1.1.2 at the moment and don't feel brave enough yet to give 1.1.3 a try (1.1.2 works and there's been a lot of stories of people installing 1.1.3 and having problems with 1.1.3 with non-iPhone contract SIM cards).

you could always get locateme from installer

I have that but it's pretty inaccurate most of the time (hence me commenting about manually locating myself). It's good to get a general idea where you are and then scroll around to fix it properly.

or use ziphone to unlock 1.1.3

Yeah, but I'm still not quite brave enough to try that just yet (my phone is working fine at the moment and not everyone who's done the upgrade has had a smooth ride).
