I have to draw a 3d model of house along with windows, doors and services. Does anybody how links or advice on learning the very basics or ArchiCAD i.e. making a skeleton of a house, so that it can be cut into and viewed in different sections etc.

I have started on the ArchiCAD essentials tutorials, but unless you use all the provided sections and plans, I have no idea what to do..

Thanks

ArchiCAD is awesome. When I worked for an architectural firm, we switched to 100% ArchiCAD, and I had the most awesome CAD manager ever. He became well-known as a guru on various ArchiCAD forums. I may be able to scrape up some old training materials we made, but they were for AC8 & AC9 at the time, and probably wouldn't do much good for you now. The learning curve is very steep, but the results are worth it.

What you're asking, though, is the equivalent of saying "I have this roll of sheet metal.... how to I make a Mercedes out of it?" There are tutorials you can get from Graphisoft for free, that would be your best place to start.

Okay, I have watched the ArchiCAD tutorials, and they show the possibilities of what is a great program. A hour after watching them and attempting my project, I still had no idea how to design a house :(. The tutorials are all pre-loaded with favourites and layouts, and I can't really use that for a University Entry Portfolio.

I'm actually getting upset about this because it's really annoying to know what can be done, but I can't figure it out. There are no schools I can go to in my area and the college I currently attend have no idea about anything I'm studying to be honest... that's why I spent so much money and effort researching things myself.

Seriously, are there any books that can help me, or any amateur tutorials that start right from scratch to show you how to develop a project.

Thanks to anyone who can help me.

Do you have to use archicad? If you don't you could try google sketchup as quite a few people on here recommend it for its simplicity.

To be honest though (I do cad for a living) you're not really going to get to grips with a cad package in a day.

As its for uni, have they actually specified you need to know how to use this software, I would have thought they would be using autocad (assuming architecture here) and maybe 3ds max/rhino/viz for rendering.

I have used AutoCAD at college for about 4 weeks, and started to understand that, but ArchiCAD in my opinion is far more advanced and superior. I don't have to use that software or even use any CAD software, it just says that i need to send no more than 10 photographs/designs/drawings etc, which I could easily do but none of those relate directly to Architecture, just to crativity.

I might try it again but I may just wait until I'm on the course and get taught it... just wanted to get a heads up so that I knew what was expected of me.

I think that I'm doing my project correctly, it kist looks really basic and not very interesting. ( I'm creating a 3d model so am i right in choosing the create 3d document option in ArchiCAD, and for the ground floor do I use ' slab' or 'zone' ? )

Thanks
