Liking the slick design and the fact that is has a decent battery and a 1080p screen makes this a very attractive phone at $300 let alone $200.

Looks like a Moto G killer to me. Discuss:

Yet it seems to be running KitKat. Archos have never been great with software updates. I imagine this will be closer to €229-249 here, I would still recommend the €179 Moto G 2014 - simply because we know it will be supported quickly with software updates.

Yeah, not sure how they are touting 64 bit when 4.4.4 kernel doesn't support it.

On the plus side it is pure 4.4.4 with no skin, in theory it should see updates at the same time as the Nexus line.

But the nexus line is already with lollipop and this hasn't even been released for sale yet, so that theory doesn't hold merit sadly.

I meant in general, not that it would ship with lollipop, but that it won't need to wait on a skin update to get updates. Drivers could still be an issue. Since they are using ASOP with GAPPS you probably could get a Lollipop ROM pretty easily.

I'm personally not very concerned about OS updates. 4.4.4 is a mature and stable OS with few bugs. GAPPS already have material design and I don't much care for some of the changes in L anyway. Plus, for the phones target audience I don't think they're going to be all that concerned about OS updates either.

I personally don't get very antsy about OS updates. Also, performance should be decent considering the extra 1gb of ram and better SOC than compared to the S400 phones in this price range. It also looks like it's running stock.

I think a lot of people were soured on Archos with their ****** Android 2.0-2.3 devices they released back in the day. I'm willing to give this phone a try.

It should work but most likely only on 2G/3G/H+ if I am not mistaken.

Archos isn't a bad company. They are French like Alcatel and used to make excellent portable media players like the AV500 which was well-reviewed a decade ago. Archos and maybe Creative and Cowon were part of the pmp market that made a name for themselves.

If Asus Zenfone 5 was a killer to Moto G, I see this one being a killer to Asus. Archos is using Qualcomm Snapdragon which I prefer over MediaTek. Lately, I am starting to believe in MediaTek more since my Wife got a Kata F1s which is quite smooth for a $100 phone.

Every generation, there are new companies or faces that start to prop up and make a name for themselves. Before it was Japan. Now South Korean. Next is China. Just two years ago, I didn't know anything about Oppo or Xiaomi. Now I do. Asus has been around for years and starting to get traction in the mobile space. Archos could be next. It gets competitive EVERY year even in pricing. Not one company should be underestimated if the price is right. Look at Xiaomi and their 61M smartphones sold last year.
