Are 9.7 Pros getting discontinued?

They are nowhere to be found on Apple's website once they announced the 10.5, however doesn't seem like most retailers have discounts on them just yet. I know BB has $50 off, but when the iPad Air 2 was getting the axe, the discounts were up to $150 off.

They're already discontinued. They are still in the retail channel. Best Buy is selling the 32GB for $50 off and the 128GB for $75 off.

Very doubtful that there will be any discounts greater than that.
 
I am probably wrong... But semi related. I feel like I saw in one of these posts they were taking about the refurbished models getting a big(er) discount and selling out quickly. Not sure about where they would've all went so quick though
 
Simple answer is yes. At least some Walmart's have them discounted by $200. Whatever you do don't buy unless you're getting at least that much off. Some locations are slower than others but it's clear that bargains will be had on the older 9.7" pro. I'm not so sure about the 12" model however. I expect Best Buy to discount next week.
The tablet market is not what it use to be so I expect even more deals on the newer models. I just don't see people rushing out to buy $600 plus tablets right now.

I literally walked away from a $399 32GB iPad 9.7 Pro from Walmart just yesterday. Brand new in the box. The only reason I did not buy it was because I'd rather spend the money to get the 10.5". I think that's a great price but I want the latest and greatest.
$50 off is a slap in the face when there's a new model coming out in a few days. So whatever you do don't jump on $50 off.

Those Walmart sales are hit-n-miss and not available everywhere.

And they'll still be receiving software support and updates for years to come. A model being discontinued has literally no impact on the experience of people who already own one. In fact, it can actually increase its resale value. When the iPhone 5 was discontinued and replaced with the 5c, I know a lot of people went to eBay and other sources desperate to get a 5 before it was too late.

when a model is discontinued, especially when it is discontinued so soon as the 9.7 Pro, it CAN impact the ownership experience. Companies stop making and selling accessories designed for it. Apple isn't selling the smart keyboard for it any more. The good news for 9.7 Pro owners is that it shares the same form factor as the Air 2 so there are still choices.

Resale value on the 9.7 Pro is NOT going to increase because it isn't more desirable than its replacement. The 10.5 Pro is only ever so slightly larger that it most likely not be a factor.

Well I currently have one and just wanting to get one for my mom, but looks like I'm going to have to get the regular iPad they have out now. Maybe some retailers who are selling the silicone case will drop the price on them.. been wanting to get one but it was just too much.
 
My local BB has very few in stock, if they are discounted any further one will have to try to order it but if they are discontinued then I doubt that will work.

All you can do is keep your eyes and ears open with retailers who have store stock.

People aren't always rationale. Many people still think of 9.7" as the "normal" iPad size, even though the 10.5" isn't that much bigger. As such, they will not want to miss their last chance to get a "normal" sized iPad Pro.

I am actually quite glad. Still have 1+ year of AppleCare remaining, if there is a serious enough issue and the model is out of stock and no refurbished in the supply chain = New 10.5" Pro for me. Should there be an *cough "mishap"

Same thing happened to my Launch MacBook Air, Apple discontinued those and my unit died, There were none available so I was gifted a newer generation MacBook Air right off the shelf.

It's kinda nice have 2 USB 3 ports an SD card slot and MagSafe plus the Butterfly Keyboard.

No, but it wasn't replaced by a new form factor, thus making it possibly the last of its kind. Also, the iPad 3 was not well received to begin with, which is probably why it was discontinued so soon. Surely you see that this isn't the same situation.
 
Yeah Apple got rid of the 9.7" Pro page even. This is good news won't be long before 9.7" owners are gifted 10.5" Pros since there are no more 9.7" units.

Apple really decided to create a real different between the cheaper 9.7" iPad that's out now and a 10.5" Pro you can't have a Pro iPad The same Size as a Non-Pro iPad.

A few forum members apparently purchased the 9.7 Pro new for around $425.00 on Newegg. I have heard they are sold out, which wouldn't shock me at that price point.
