I got an iPod a few weeks ago so I've been shopping at the Canadian iTMS. It seems very slow to me. For example I was in the store and typed Springsteen into the search box. It took 54 seconds before the search results were displayed. That seems terrible. Google would go out of business if a search took more than a second or two. Clicking on Born to Run took another 22 seconds to bring up the album info.

It's only the browsing that is very slow. For the songs and one album I bought the download time was very reasonable (30 seconds a song maybe [I didn't time it]).

Is the US store and the other ones faster? It doesn't seem to be a time-of-day thing since I've been on at 1 am and it was just as slow.

Thanks - Greg

The Australian one's that slow too. The combination of slow service, comparatively low audio quality, and lack of lyrics has pretty much made me give up on iTMS.

Strange. Maybe it's my computer (PIII 800MHz with XP). I've been assuming it's loading time for iTMS.

For the US store, I would not call it snappy, but I don't think it's that slow either. Searches take slightly longer than Google searches to execute, but I tried to replicate the searches you describe, and it took me approximately six seconds to get the results for "springsteen," and approximately two seconds to get an album from there. But on occasion, it has been significantly slower.

My experience with the download speed is comparable to what you describe.

This is on an iBook G4/800, in Florida, on a Cable modem through an Airport.

Me too. less than 10 seconds to search, and about 11 seconds to download a 4 minute song. On Rogers with 3Mbps service.

Have you tried testing your bandwidth speed? Whose your service providor? I have noticed that everyone I know on Bell has slower speeds than what they're supposed to.

I'm on Shaw (in Saskatoon) and my web browsing experience is fast for everything but iTMS. And like I said downloading the songs I bought was decently fast.

Thanks - Greg

ive never been impressed with the speed of the music store...even now @ 3 am it is sluggish.

I find the Australia one surprisingly snappy. I was pleasantly surprised when I first logged on because I thought it would be like the US store which is quite slow for me. Most things in the Australian iTMS are practically instant for me. :)

It seems to be behaving itself a bit better now. When it was first launched it was fast, but for the past week it's been unbearably slow for me. However, I just tried it again and it's going fast at the moment :)
