hey-
this isn't totally about windows on mac, but I figured I'd post it here because people posting in this section of the forum tend to be knowledgeable about windows.

so I'm switching my mom (yay!) my new MBP is perfectly adequate to be my main machine, so I'm giving her my old mini. she's a journalist, so her word files=money. anyway, I was wondering if there's anyplace that any files at all may be (except for apps and windows stuff of course) besides the Owner's Documents folder.
Thank you very much,
wmmk

You can pretty much keep the files anywhere you want. You can make a file or folder with files in the system folder or another hard drive or network drive so ya I guess it can be elsewhere. You could copy anything she's got on the desktop and in My Documents and after that, do a search for all *.DOC files on the computer and see if any pop up in other folders that look like it might be hers.

if anything like my mum it will be on the desktop (you should be able to see these on boot) or the My documents folder. If you want any settings for programs such as firefox then its a hunt for some hidden folders within the documents and settings folders

thanks all. i transfered all of her documents and stuff from the desktop, and she says she has everything she needs except for Contivity VPN Client, which she needs to file expense accounts for work. I think there's a mac version, but I have no idea how I'll get that and set it up.

EDIT: wayyyyyyy!!!!! I'm a 65832!

Try the built in OS X VPN client first, I'm using it with a Cisco VN concentrator very nicely.

Seems likely, see here: http://www.itservices.ubc.ca/support/service/vpn/macos103vpn.html

BTW. You're a 68000 now, how time files.
