In my daily scanning through all the newly released apps and my usual grumbling to myself at how many SupaFan/TravelTo/Etc. apps I have to scroll past every day and thinking how nice it would be if they'd just make ONE app and then use in-app purchases to sell additional content instead of clogging up the app store, I got to thinking that so far I've not seen any apps that actually USE the much-touted 'in-app purchasing'. Have there actually been any that anyone knows about and I've just somehow missed seeing? And if not, is there a reason nobody has started using it yet? I'm kind of surprised, for example, that Amazon hasn't incorporated it into the Kindle app yet since it would be a cinch to think they'd want to make it easier for people to buy books through it instead of having to go buy them through the web page like you do now...

We use it in BillMinder for folks to purchase an annual subscription for Push Notifications. The cost is 99 cents per year (in the US). It's optional, of course and does not auto-renew, etc. It's not exactly "additional content" but it is an extra feature.

Tweet Push. There is a monthly subscription fee of $0.99 (among other subscription terms) that utilizes the in-app purchasing functionality of the new iPhone software.
TravelTracker with TripIt is using it to allow upgrades to the Pro version by paying the difference in price. This is just the kind of thing I think it should be used for. It's been frustrating to me in the past to want the extra features of a "pro" version and having to pay the full price to get the extra features of an application I've already paid for.

Stacks has over 120 items using In-App-Purchase
Stacks uses a e-book reader business model and sells professionally created flash cards within the app. The base app for $2.99 comes with over 50 stacks, and additional stacks can be purchased for another $.99.
There are over 120 stacks now available, so it really doesn't make sense for each one to be a sperate app, although it is obvious many companies out there have simply flooded the app store with individual apps making navigation a pain. In this case, Stacks uses a single platform to deliver content to users.

I was kinda surprised that Tomtom didn't make use of this feature somehow in their app.
I would imagine that Tomtom had quite a bit of help from Apple in creating their app (I only think this because they had a slot at the WWDC keynote). And with them being one of the first to use the iPhone accessories framework, I would have thought Apple would have used Tomtom as a means to showcase their new SDK features. Also, a SatNav app seems like an app that would be able to fill an in-app store with goodies, such as extra POIs, Traffic subscriptions, more maps, perhaps make speed cameras an optional 99p extra - that sorta thing.
