Are Apple Retail Stores still selling the 2009 iMac models?

You will have call them. Or you can get an even cheaper refurbished model.

I think they return old stock that then gets sold through the refurb store.

I could be totally wrong though...

You might be able to, I remember a couple years ago I was able to pick up a PowerBook when the new MBPs came out for a ridiculous deal. Came to about $800 of regular price.

Coincidentally two years later it started developing a screen anomaly and Apple replaced it for a comparable $2000 MBP. Gotta love Applecare.
