Are apps supposed to update without leaving the app store?

I thought I saw that with ios 5 when you update apps on the phone you don't leave the app store? I haven't seen that yet.

It downloads them in the background so it does not close the app store . It can also download apps or updates all at once.

I stil have not seen this behavior.

Do you have to update all to have it not leave the app store?

Or is there a setting to turn on not leaving the app store during updates?
