Are the computers going to look different when Lion comes out? Should I just wait for Lion to come out to upgrade my '06 black book?

Are different looking computers coming with Lion?

Why would they? There's no indication that the look of the Macs will change just for Lion. All currently selling Macs will most certainly run Lion anyway.

Personally, I think it's unlikely that the MacBooks can go until the release of Lion without an update, but there could be one soon and then another update/redesign with Lion.

Most likely not. Apple just spent a year and a half switching over to this new unibody-type design for its computers, so it's not likely that they will change them, especially not just for a new version of the OS
While I find it highly unlikely that Apple is going to redesign their laptops this soon, if they were to do it, they still would obviously not be ditching the unibody structure.
I'm thinking it would come in the form of different materials: a darker metal, etc. or in the form of a slightly different shape. Perhaps more squared off, in keeping with the more professional image they're promoting for the iphone.
But no matter what, there's obviously going to be an update in the near future.

i just think as the new app store coming with lion and ilife 11 just makes a touchscreen iMac a necessity, as most of the new features coming from iOS over to OSX just need a touchscreen to make sense
Steve has voiced his issues with that concept. The only way I could see this appearing is if APple began marketing a laptop in which the keyboard had been replaced with a second, touch-sensitive, screen.
God, if they had a way to create some realistic tactile response, that'd be amazing. Unfortunately, with how much those guys charge for Modbooks, I can't imagine the price on these.

Well Maybe not lion on it's own, but maybe if Lion has better data syncing between devices. Teamed with with Lightpeak for a fat pipe connection between devices. Then a long running concept, I've various versions over the last twenty years, of the modular computer might come and replace the MacMini/Pro/Server Family.
I understand Cray now produces clusters using a similar idea, an ARM systems processor teamed with Application processor.
Apple could do something similar maybe starting with the server line. After all most of what people want servers for processes that are adapt well to clustered processors. Then let it flow down the product range as the Interface Devices (iOS) flow up.

Steve said a touchscreen Mac in current designs will not work. Apple has patented a design that is like a hybrid lamp iMac and current iMac with the foot. It's got a hinged base that allows the computer to be vertical and move down to an angel of about 30 degrees.
People love the iDevices because they just feel so natural. There will be a touchscreen iMac. It's just a matter of time.
Apple patents lots of things, that never see the light of day. While I don't believe Jobs when he says stuff, like the iPhone not needing multitasking, or OSX needing an app store.
I think he's right, ergonomically speaking a touch screen iMac is a horrible idea. You're arms will get tired, or your neck will be using the display in an unnatural position.

Who knows if it will be at the same time, but as the rumors say, the MacBook line is in need of some design upgrades. It's been nearly two years now. I love the unibodies, but I have an '08 model and Im hoping for some cool new looks Q1 of 2011.
