Hi,

Today I had two missed calls from numbers I didn't knew (I'm from Switzerland and those were regular mobile carrier numbers), I messaged them both back saying that I had a missed call and asking who they are. Both answered me something like "I called you because I had a missing call from your number".
One of them even showed my a screenshot of his recent calls list, "proving" I had called him first.

So, apparently I called those numbers. The thing is... I didn't call anybody! I didn't touch my phone at the time of the supposed calls, and I have no trace of them in the recent calls menu. They seam to be "ghost" calls made from my phone to random numbers.

I googled quickly and the first result lead to an old Apple Communities thread from 2013 with people experiencing the same issue, without any solution or fix.

Through the Assistance app, I started a chat with a dude from Apple who tried to help me but quickly I realized that I was trying to give me the usual bullish&!t speech like "be careful, that might be a phishing scam", "maybe you dialed with voice control", "have you tried to reset your settings?"... the kind of answers that aren't helpful at all.

Bottom line. Are those ghost calls still a thing in 2023 ? I'm going to submit a bug report to Apple but I have no faith in a fix.

Once in a while I get calls from unknown numbers and I always assumed they came from scammy businesses or people who misdialed the number... but now I have doubts about everything. Maybe I've been randomly calling people this whole time?

Thanks for any clues.

P.S - iPhone 14 Pro Max with iOS 17.0.2

Those were no ghost calls. Those "people" were trying to scam you - or someone else is placing calls by spoofing your number. It's not your iPhone doing that. If you check your phone company call records, you will see that no outgoing calls from you to those numbers show up.

(I'm from Switzerland too)

So... people trying to scam me and they say "Ok, no problem, have a nice evening" after I told them I didn't made any call?
