I think it's safe to say that Samsuing has become synonymous with Android. But when the general public go out and buy a Galaxy device, are they buying the brand or are they buying Android? I ask because I believe the answer to that question will determine if Tizen is a success or not. My guess is, they're buying the brand. And I'm betting Tizen UI will look very similar to whatever Touchwiz looks like at the time of release. This way the general public doesn't know the difference.

I don't know about other people but I'm buying because of Android. I do have a track record with Samsung phones but I don't see myself abandoning Android to stick with Samsung.

If HTC didn't insist on putting the power button on the top I would have sticked with the One.

I think it's a bit of both.

I've been buying Galaxy devices for several years now, and while I generally enjoy what Samsung is doing with the Android OS base.
I would have to evaluate Tizen as an OS on its own merit before I made any decision either way.

TouchWiz is what most people identify with, but at the end of the day Samsung is still working on top of Android.

What kind of question is this?!

I don't think people are so stupid that they think the Samsung phones are products that are purely Samsung. They buy them because they're the ones that have more advertising and name recognition behind them.

They are also the only company that has CURRENT models with various specifications and price points that meet a user's needs and wants.

You can buy a low end Samsung, you can buy a mid range Samsung, and you can buy a Note.

You talk as if advertising is all it takes and as if no choice exists for the consumer. OEMs would love it if it were that simple. lol

If Samsung got rid of android for tizan it would go from the number 1 selling phone to the worst over night.

Does the op not know how heavily Samsung is integrated with android?

They have made nexus devices for Google and just put out a Google edition galaxy s4.

tizan was a backup plan and will never be on a flagship Samsung device

Android has 75% world market share right now.

That means world wide every 4 phones sold 3 of them are androids.why would Samsung leave the biggest Eco system for something that is none existent

Bit of both. I've had quite a few Samsung devices in a row. (GS2, Skyrocket, GS3 (x2), GN2 (x3), GS4)

Samsung has had a streak of making quality Android devices with good software. Plus tons of 3rd party support out there for them. They've earned such a huge following for doing this. It's hilarious that there are some people out there that think its "cool" to hate Samsung (just like Apple)

Every time I venture off this path, I end up with a lackluster device. But my first Android device was, I think, the Atrix.

I can say that all of my non-Samsung Android devices have been pretty meh. (Atrix, Inspire, One X, Optimus G, Nexus 4, XPERIA Z, HTC One)

And a Samsung Chromebook, laptop, tablet, fridge, microwave, stove, washer/dryer, TV, bluray player, etcetera. :D

I buy both. Currently Android v 4.2.2 is my favorite mobile OS which runs on my Samsung Galaxy S4. Having had exemplary experiences with my Galaxy S, SII, SIII, and now S4, the run of success I've enjoyed has only been equaled by each of the new iPhones I've used concurrently. Two different platforms each with their own list of advantages, it's all a matter of personal preferences.

I would say the brand as I dont really see what samsung phones have over the competing android handsets.

Samsung builds outstanding high quality components. Just look at their track record, it's stellar. Not only that but they back it up with exemplary build quality. I've owned every Galaxy S series, and the majority of my friends have too. While certainly not perfect, they have really been amazing.

Tell me that when the buyer don't see Maps, Navigation, GMail and the other Google services

You'd be wrong. Samsung made phones with decent hardware and crappy software before android. They sucked and no one bought them.

Samsung currently makes windows phones alongside their Android phones. To my knowledge, they don't sell all that well.

Though people buying these devices are very cognizant of the manufacturer, they are buying the devices because of the operating system. Google Play, Google Maps, and all of the other cloud/notification/connectivity features that Android gives you access to.

The fact that Android sells better than iPhone, even though half of Android phones have worse hardware specs than the iPhone should be a clue that not everyone is basing their choice on screen resolution or processor speed.

Really good build quality? High Quality components?

If you mean good processor etc, I would have to agree, but the processors aren't samsung exclusives (unless you are saying exynos), but build quality, yes it is durable, but it is plastic, doesn't feel good to hold scratches and is a finger print magnet!

I think plastic is more durable than aluminum which dent, bent, stain and scratch far more easily.

When I made the decision, it was first to go Android, and then I looked at the two primary competitors, the HTC One and GS4.

well, i buy android, android is the main reason people recognize the galaxy line, but there are some people who just go for the brand and that's a stupid thing to do.

But aluminum will offer more protection to the screen if it lands side ways or on a corner. And that's also beside point, Samsung isn't the only manufacturer that uses plastic.
