Are people still having iMac screen woes?

Are people still having issues with the screens as far as the yellow/brown tints go? I bought one when they first came out and had issues with it and a couple of the ones I exchanged it for. They claimed it was normal so I eventually just got a mini instead. I'm looking into an iMac again though since I'm selling my mini and just ditched my PC as well.
 
Haven't come across this problem at all in any way, my iMac screen looks lovely, no glare whatsoever so I don't know where the complaining from people is coming from at all.
 
I guess I have a part 2 of my question... with the 24" I have the ability to go with a HD 2600 Pro video card or 8800GS. I'm not a big PC gamer and sold my gaming PC that I built a year ago and rarely ever used. However, I do have some PC games that I wouldn't mind being able to use in Bootcamp if I feel like it. I hear the 2600 Pro is pretty miserable, but is the 8800 GS that much better? I do not plan on running high-end games for the most part although I do have a copy of Mass Effect I wouldn't mind being able to run.
 
I just got the 24 with the 8800, and I play Warcraft III a bunch. I came from a 3 year old laptop's crap card. It performs beautifully, I'd strongly recommend it.

And you'll be all the more future ready when more complex core animations come with the next OS.

I'm on the razor's edge of pulling the trigger on this one. Any other experiences with the 8800 GS? I'm also hoping for more good experiences with these displays in general.
 
Yes, i think there is still a "gamma shift" on the imac displays. Its "normal" for that display. Still, its so minor that it doesnt bother me at all! Overall very good screen and you only noticed when viewing solid 50% gray. Of course calibration will make a huge difference. I have calibrated it to 6500k and 2.2 gamma.

Hi, yes im running this system and it preforms beautifully, the display is great, I have no problems with any glare or colour gradient issues like I did with the 20" iMac and the viewing angle is much better also.

As for the 8800gs I run COD4, RA3, AOE3 and Spore all on max graphics with no problems. Im a casual gamer and I find it to be a fantastic machine. (Just to note I run Spore in OS X and the rest in XP sp3 via bootcamp)

Just a note I had no glare issues with the 20" iMac I think I was a little unclear on that point.
 
Thanks for all of the help everybody. That makes my decision that much easier. I'm sure I know what I want. I'm just waiting for my mini to sell, which should happen anytime and I've already got my money from selling my PC. I think I'll be ordering very early next week.

In the meantime, I'm still open to impressions positive or negative in the meantime.

I'd like to say I can wait for the new iMacs... well, I could wait, but for my needs I don't think I would need the upgrades they put into the machine. The current top-end iMac seems pretty powerful actually. I don't think I will want to spend the cash for the top end new retail iMac when I can get a pretty sweet refurb at a good price that still has some pretty good specs.
 
I purchased mine (24" 2.4Ghz model) brand new on eBay about four months ago, and the screen was absolutely fine, ZERO gradient issues. It was manufactured in the US though, if that made any difference.

The display however has developed pixel issues, so I'm opting to sell it off and get an updated model, since Apple won't bother with two bad pixels. I'm still afraid of nabbing a display with gradient issues since I hate the whole return and exchange process, so I'm just going to wait out for updated models that gets rid of it for good.
 
It looks like I'm going to have to wait a little regardless. The refurb is no longer available. I was going to get it yesterday afternoon, but was having an issue with the checkout process and then last night it was gone. Go figure... it sits there for over a week and hours after I TRY to get it's gone. Lame.

I have an imac with the ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro
i am noticing faint red lines appearing on the screen, esp on grey toolbars

is this a 'normal' gamma thing ?
my screen res is at 1680 x 1050

I would avoid the 24" imacs until they get rev'd again. At this point, I would be relieved if the only problem you have is "normal" gradient and backlight bleed issues. The prevailing theory on the Apple forums seems to be heat/HD vibration mucking with the panel somehow, causing bizarre "dirty bars", inordinate image persistence, weird lines, etc. Indeed, swapping the display is only a temporary fix in most cases.
