I tried out the AirPods Max a few months ago and I returned them due to that I felt that there weren't worth it for the Apple TV 4K. Since tvOS 15.1 came out, I would like to know if the AirPods Max are worth buying again?

I just bought them at Best Buy around noon which is on sale. They had a Black Friday guaranteed price on them, if it goes down in price before or on Black Friday, they will refund me the difference.

Yes. I almost exclusively consume movies and tv shows on my  TV with APM. Spatial Audio is fabulous, especially with Dolby Atmos content.
Do you have surround sound speakers at home? How does the APM spatial audio compare?

I had a 3.1 soundbar that I ditched right away. I live in an apartment and can't really benefit from a proper surround sound experience. Dune on HBOMax was amazing with the APM as are other Dolby Atmos supported titles.

For ~$500 (or whatever they are now), I think they'd be a bit disappointing if that's your main usage. The spatial audio is kinda neat, but it does something weird to the dialogue that I don't really care for. Gives it kind of an echo. I think the Apple TV/spatial audio stuff are good bonus features but not a good reason to buy by themselves.

I know the echo you are fearing to but I have only experienced with Spatialized Stereo, basically fake Spatial Audio and I always turn that off.

For me personally, the APM are the best movie, tv show and music headphones I have owned and also enjoyed wearing for hours at the time. iCloud syncing and fast-pairing is what makes them worth the price for me.

I was hearing it on Ted Lasso and For All Mankind. I was assuming both of those would be mixed correctly. Maybe not. I’ll have to give it another try with a movie I know for certain is setup for it. I don’t even know how to turn off spatialized stereo on atv.

Would love to hear from others more comparisons between APMs and surround sound speakers at home… How does the APM spatial audio/Dolby Atmos compare? How close/far are they in terms of difference?
