Are the current iMac's worth a purchase?

£1199+ is alot of money to spend in one go, so i want to know is it worth buying the PowerPC iMac, or will the intel switch render them useless. I will need an iMac pretty soon, but i could manage on my old PC if the iMac is going to be pointless by june next year?

Also, which is the best all-in-one for scanning film slides and negatives, and printing pictures?

The Intel switch will not render any Mac useless. The PowerPC Macs will continue to run for quite some time.

I am still using Macs that I purchased over 10 years ago. They still run great albiet they don't run the latest OS or software.

Remember, all Macs come with the full Mac OS X install plus the latest version of iLife (iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, Garage Band, etc.).

Get a Mac when you need/want it and enjoy using it.

If you're going to be unable to buy a new iMac around this time next year if you are to buy an iMac now, I would say wait. Though, if you can buy the iMac now, and then in a year sell the one you buy, go for that.

Get it now. PPC is will be the majority of Mac computers for years to come, so they will be forced to make software for them. Not to mention Intel will be buggy,little software, and nothing that can run as fast as native PPC for a while. They are also making universal binaries, meaning apps will run on both Intel and Mac. If you need one now, get it. It is actually a great value.

A. Yes, it is a lot of money to spend at once, and it should be seen as an investment. If you can wait for a year to a year and a half then invest in the iMac G5 rev C.

A. Yes, PPC will be here to stay for another 5 years. At which point technology will be far ahead of what we have today and you would plan on updating anyhow.

A. Not so, as no one knows what products Apple has planned to release and there is a very good chance that the Intel Mac's will have bugs in the hardware and software process to iron out. This should take a good 2-5 years.

A. If you need it now, I would purchase it then. If you can go on for another 6 months to a year, then that is is a personal call. However remember no one knows what products will be released H2 2006. You might get new PowerBooks, eMacs, iBooks, however no iMacs or PowerMacs. If this was a business purchase I would invest in the new iMac.
