as the title asks, are the processors in the mac pro able to be taken out and changed with a processor i buy off of newegg. this would play a major role in deciding whether or not to get a mac pro. that and funds

Yup - although don't swap in new processors till your AppleCare warranty expires, because it'll void it.

Oh, and don't expect Apple to support swapping processors...

Yep, they're standard Xeons in what appear to be standard sockets. You need a long screwdriver for the heatsinks, but if you can afford Xeons then you can afford a screwdriver :)

True that. I really wish I had a need for a powermac. I'm also really glad that I don't since not spending as much money is great too! Luckily I'm a laptop guy as siting at a desk bothers me.
