I am not able to find the NVIDIA web drivers anymore for the GTX 980. Did NVIDIA take them down?

Does anyone know if Sierra has them built in?

There were never any official web drivers for the 980. You have to search for an official Mac Edition product like the GTX 680 or Quadro K5000. There are plenty of links floating around, for example in the sticky thread at the top of the forum or here:

Actually Nvidia web drivers do add support for the GTX 900's, it just isn't publicly stated because the only Mac capable of running it is the Mac Pro PRE-2013 models

Hmm. I am running my Mac Pro on official NVIDIA drivers with my GTX 980. Strange.
http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/107807/en-us Heres what you need buddy :) I would recommend looking into https://www.tonymacx86.com site for Hackintosh Drivers

Looks like there is a GTX 600 series driver for Sierra. Should I install that?

The drivers aren't card-specific, but they are very specific to OS X version number, even down to the build number. Every build of OS X has its own Nvidia driver that works with that one build only. I strongly recommend just using the list on macvidcard's website posted above.

Furthermore, if you didn't keep your old card and you didn't get this one flashed, I strongly recommend enabling some method of RDP/VNC/Screen sharing for later.

Question 3.

These can be found by searching for Quadro 4000 or GeForce GTX 680 drivers on NVIDIA's site, you won't find anything if you search for a GTX 570 or GTX 980 for example since those cards are not officially supported. If you are using a PC card, it is recommended that you always run the latest driver from NVIDIA's site, even if the base OS version allows your card to work out of the box.

There are official drivers from Nvidia, and they do include proper support for Maxwell cards. But that's not the same thing as official GTX 980 drivers. The official supported card list for the web drivers stops at the GTX 680. I think that's the source of the confusion in this thread.

Right, you can only find drivers if you search for official Mac Edition cards, like the GTX 680. Other PC cards, including all Maxwell GPUs, are unofficial/beta and thus not officially supported.

You keep saying that OVER & OVER - But it's NOT true!

That's only for Sierra and High Sierra NOT for mojave

^^^^Yes, Very True, but since the nMP was released a lot of new hardware has also been released, that the nMP can't handle without external boxes and wiring cluttering things up. However, the cMP 5,1 released close to 9 years ago can. Couple of examples - GPUs, NVMe SSDs.

Everything in the nMP is Apple specific design except the CPUs and RAM. Not so with the cMP. Internal components, except the power supply, are industry standard and easily upgradeable.

Right, that post is from 2 years ago, not sure why this thread was revived.

There is a huge difference between the level of support NVIDIA provides on Windows (and even Linux), and what you get from the web drivers under macOS. Initially they didn't acknowledge that the drivers enabled non-official cards, but that changed to them claiming beta support. I've always taken that to mean that there will be bugs or other issues, and that you shouldn't expect the same level of support as you might for the Windows drivers. You can contact customer support and talk/chat with someone to help you for Windows. On macOS, they basically tell you you're on your own. That's what I mean by unsupported.

^^^^My Gosh - You Guys still keep on insisting when it plainly says on the Nvidia web site that it is NOT a BETA for the cMP 3,1, 4,1 and 5,1.pat.gif

Please read and comprehend what the above from Nvidia's web site says!!!!!!!!!!

Seems pretty plain and easy to understand to me1387914497.gif

However, I have no argument with the level of support we get. Nvidia's support for Mac drivers is far far less than for windoz drivers, which is perfectly understandable given the animosity between Apple and Nvidia and the relatively small Mac Market.

Right, take a look at the list of supported GPUs right below that:

https://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/141130

Supported Products

GeForce 600 Series
GeForce GTX 680
GeForce 200 Series
GeForce GTX 285
GeForce 100 Series
GeForce GT 120
GeForce 8 Series
GeForce 8800 GT
Quadro Series
Quadro K5000 for Mac, Quadro 4000 for Mac
Quadro FX Series
Quadro FX 4800, Quadro FX 5600

Anything not on that list is unsupported. Note the lack of any Maxwell or Pascal GPUs. That's what I've been talking about.

Nvidia Customer Care staff confirmed that the Pascal card "should work" but "no official support". I believe this also applicable to any GPU not on that "Supported Products" list as well. Or at least OP's 980 should be in the same situation because Nvidia never ever says give the Maxwell any official support in any OSX / macOS.

This has been the core part of what I've been posting for nearly 6 or 7 years at this point, yeah. Way back in the 10.6 or 10.7 era, NVIDIA flipped a switch and allowed PC cards to basically just work under macOS. It was completely unofficial and they were not supported (as in, you can contact customer support and get help when you hit issues), but in general they worked pretty well.

A couple of years ago, NVIDIA made a blog post about "beta" support for Maxwell and Pascal GPUs, when they announced "beta" support for laptops and iMacs as well (these used to be excluded from the installer). That was the first time they'd acknowledged that these PC cards pretty much just worked under macOS. The beta support for laptops and iMacs can still be found in the release notes for each driver, as flowrider pointed out. The part about Maxwell and Pascal GPUs (or any other PC card) was never in the release notes.

And again, I will refer you to this post I made a year ago:

^^^^Because those were the only "official" Mac cards sold that were issued as "Mac Edition". See this from Nvidia's web site concerning Pascal Cards.
