It looks to me that the older iPads meaning the iPads Mfg.ed before these new iPads, are proving to be better in their build quality with a lot less people with complaints about them.

I don’t think they are proving better better.
Anyway, the more complex a product, the more things can go wrong, but I think it’s more a perception thing that newer ones have more issues.
People complained when the 10.5 came out.
Nothing wrong with my 11", it is perfect!
Yeah, well opinions vary. My 11” ipad pro is hands down the best Apple product i’ve ever bought. But if you get one of the 10.5” ipads instead, good for you. Enjoy it. I’m definitely enjoying mine.
Apple iPad design peaked around the release of the 9.7 iPad Pro and the 2nd Gen iPad Pros.
Honestly EVERYBODY and their grandma knows better than to buy Apple 1st-gen anything.
Original iPad (had one, was a dog by the 1st iOS update), original Apple Watch (I have one... same), iPad Retina (that too, + replaced after 6 months), iPhone 6 Plus (Bendgate), iPhone 5 (paint chipping off), iPhone X (too small, discontinued), original iPod Nano (exploded), original iPod Photo (useless), MBP 2016 (Keyboard, slow), 2008 MBA (slow as hell), 2018 MBA (still slow as hell + overpriced). The list goes on and on and on.

This is a 3rd gen iPad Pro, it’s not 1st gen anything, first of all. Second, iPhone X too small? Lol. It was discontinued because of XS, it is too expensive to produce at a lower cost and THE SAME SIZED XS is replacing it. X was the best selling iPhone last year, a total hit and one of the best phones ever made. iPad Pro 2nd gen is great, but definitely not peak as the 3rd gen beats it in every way - size, feel, speed, Pencil, screen, sound.... everything. Also, MBP 2016 sure isn’t slow, iPhone 5 was awesome, iPhone 6 was a superstar hit (most people had no issues with bending).... so, your list is silly, tbh. Boomerang iPads.... are the best iPads ever made and it’s hardware is the best hardware Apple made - perhaps ever.
Btw, iPad Retina was replaced after 9 months, FYI.
The new iPadPro,s are a complete different direction it is a first Gen.
That’s not how generations work.
Every key tech inside the new Pro existed in the previous gen. True Tone, Promotion, Apple Pencil, Smart Connector, all of it is still here but improved, based on the lessons Apple learned from previous two versions and other devices.
Not only that, they also improved technology from other devices, like Face ID which is actually better on iPad than on iPhone. This iPad is furthest from a Gen 1 product you can get. This iPad couldn’t have been made as the first iteration. It is the iPad Apple wanted to make three years ago, but couldn’t.

My best iPad was first iPad Pro 12.9. No problems ever. Nada. Best device ever produced by Apple. (And I own quite a number of Apple’s devices, like 2 iPhones, a watch, MacBooks etc).
I still regret that I sold it and exchanged for an iPad Pro 12.9 2nd gen where I have constant problems with Touch screen that Apple Genius Bar failure detection tool doesn’t confirm.

Nope. Pencil 2, FaceID, are just 2 key differences from the previous gens. But if it helps you to think of the 2018 iPad pros as a 3rd gen device, have at it.
It doesn’t help me one way or the other - I don’t care. I think this iPad is by far the best iPad and one of the best devices Apple ever made. It’s just the way it is - it is the 3rd generation of a device named iPad Pro. I could be wrong but I think this just might be the reason why Apple calls it, you know, “iPad Pro 3rd generation”.
It is a refined version of the first generation of iPad Pro. And even the one and only technology that is completely new compared to previous iPads - Face ID - is not new, in fact, it is the second generation of this tech. Literally everything on this iPad is a refinement of a previous tech Apple brought to market with preceding devices. In a way this device is the “best of” compilation of Apple achievements.
Rounded corners with subpixel antialiasing? Not new. Face ID? Not new, second gen. Apple Pencil? Not new (same core tech), second gen. 7nm A12 CPU? Not new, just with more cores. Promotion, True Tone? Not new. Smart connector? Not new.
Literally, everything in this iPad is a refinement of a tech that has already been tested in one way or another. In fact, it is the first iPad Pro that didn’t bring any new tech along with it. First iPad Pro brought the Pencil and the Smart Connector - neither of which existed on any Apple device before, and 2nd gen brought ProMotion. Everything on this iPad Pro is a mature, tested tech. It’s just how it is. It also explains why this is such a great device hardware-wise. This hardware is Apple at its finest.
But, to use your own phrasing - if it helps you think this 3rd generation iPad Pro is somehow a 1st gen product just because it looks different, have at it.
Older ones cost more but were made of high quality built and had higher quality components in general. The only setback was lack of RAM inside the iPad to future proof them. That is Apple trump card the amount of RAM was always kept to the bare minimum!

Apples Mr.Cook had to do what ever could be done to keep their high profits high and keep also the stock holders happy.
What he did was add a few new items but cut back on how well built the new iPadPros were built with less strength in the housings, still keeping ram at a 2Gb unless you want to pay for the 1TB in the 12.
To keep the quality of build as the older iPads they would have had to add another $100 to their already gouging price jump of $200 over last years price.
Just look at how they now force people to get a new pen, and that over priced keyboard without back lighting at $150 what a bummer and still the same lame Apple OS.

I disagree. Sure, the new ipad pros are thinner, but don’t confuse that with cheaper. My 11” ipad pro feels like the most premium ipad i have ever owned. Also, ram is 4GB not 2GB. It goes up to 6GB if you buy the 1TB version of the 11” or 12.9”.
Plus Apple isn’t forcing anyone to upgrade. The Apple pencil stayed the same for 2 generations of ipad pros. Yes it changed(for the better) with the third generation ipad pros...but to be mad at Apple for improving their products is kinda silly. Things change. The older ipad pros don’t have the flat edge or internal components to wirelessly charge the new apple pencil. You can’t actually say Apple is now “forcing” you to buy a new pencil. Nobody forces anybody to do anything.
You could say it’s frustrating. Heck, i get frustrated with change. Everybody does. Lol. But at some point, you have to just accept the simple fact that progress will leave you behind unless you change with it.

You can't judge a device based on comments in these forums. This is where people with issues come to complain, so your point of view is going to be very skewed if you take this place too serious. People rarely post when things are going great.

I hear ya. I have the 11” as well, and love it. No issues whatsoever. I’ve been trying my best to calm the fears of some potential buyers who come here and think the new ipad pros will literally bend in their hands. Lol. So not true.
I’m sorry, but this is just ridiculous and you’re constructing the story to fit your conclusion. This iPad didn’t add “a few new items” - it literally improved every single aspect of the previous gen. It is also made with lower tolerance for error and has a more sophisticated design. Out of all that you’re making it look like they somehow cheaped out on this iPad. Because, the worlds fastest mobile CPU, most accurate screen on a consumer device, best facial recognition tech, alongside an improved Pencil that was already industry leading, really great speakers, 120hz screen with VRR and True Tone and a really great camera.... and you’re trying to paint this as making some cheap, poorly slapped togeather product designed to make investors happy.
And, I don’t really understand how they are forcing you to get the Pencil or Keyboard, and how is that different from the past 3 years, btw. Also, iPPs have 4, not 2Gb RAM (1Tb model has 6, out of which developers have access to the same 4, and the bigger RAM seems to be here to serve as SSD cache).
I keep saying and I’ll say it again - iPad Pro 2018 is some of the best hardware Apple ever made. And this is also echoed in some of the most trusted and meticulous reviewers - like Anandtech, Ars Technica, Marques Brownley, etc.
Simply not so. They are the same iPads with different case and updated internals.
The new iPads are very FAR from being first generation devices.

Man Aevan, do you ever get tired of coming to defend Apple at every moment. Seems like you feel the need to refute anyone having an issue with the new iPad.
Not at all - if you have issues with the iPad I totally hope Apple sorts it out for you. I’m on your side. I hope they replace devices with issues or refund anyone who isn’t happy. Also, I am always happy when they admit their mistake and offer out-of-warranty service programs. And just to be clear, I do hate it when such expensive devices have issues.
With that said, I really dislike the angry hyperbole that MRF is known for. I honestly think this new iPad is awesome and would make a lot of people happy. But just read the negative comments, they are so overboard it’s not even funny. And most of them are coming from people who are not owners, so they are not the ones having issues.
So, I am not really defending Apple, I am defending what I consider “a rational approach to benefits and downsides of a product”.
But if you did get one and are having issues - I am totally on your side when it comes to having these issues sorted. Heck, I wish Apple gives you two iPads for the trouble

Which of course is ridiculous. Nobody forces anyone to do anything. And the new ipad pros, although thinner, are definitely premium devices.
I think it’s important to listen to all voices. If someone has an issue, this is a good place to get feedback. But also it can become an echo chamber where people with legit issues get lumped in with people with OCD or Apple bashing agendas.
I think it's healthy to push back alittle when things start to get silly. And just because Aevan or myself sing the new ipad pro’s praises, doesn’t mean we are blind Apple fanboys.
I have returned plenty of Apple products before. Bad pixel or for whatever reason. Never had a problem when doing so. If for whatever reason someone doesn’t like their new ipad pro...just return or exchange it. Very simple. I think it’s the over the top complaining or stories about people returning their ipad pros 10 times that becomes absurd after awhile. Makes it seem like these ipads bend just by looking at them, which of course is totally false. Completely and utterly FALSE. The vast majority of people do not have any issues at all. So i think its important to let other potential buyers aware of this to balance out all the fearmongering.
