First of all, in most cases this "poor thermal paste application" is a non-issue. Sure it might be sloppily done, but it's not like your computer is going to melt just because its a few degrees hotter. This is assuming, of course, that you are performing some task that is strenuous enough on the hardware for it to start to get hot. As for general heat issues...it is an aluminum case, so its bound do conduct heat. There are people with genuine problems that more often than not get them fixed, but complaining about "heat issues" because your legs were toasted while rendering some video with the laptop sitting on your bare legs is hardly something to complain about. Lots of activity = heat, that's never going to change with any laptop. Of course if you have a cheap plastic enclosure instead of a metal one you'll probably feel the heat less, though that does little for dissipation.
Second, there are many people complaining about the yellow tint issue but I've as of yet seen only one (1) photo claiming to properly document it. It was certainly visible, though I must admit that the abundance of complaints is a bit unjustified...especially for a lot of people that can't even show any proof. Also, this issue has been thoroughly confused with an unrelated and completely nonsensical complaint about the nature of LCD screens to turn yellow when you view them at an extreme angle instead of straight on.
If "heat issues, poor thermal paste, and yellow tint" is the best that you can think of as far as SR MBP defects goes, then I'm not sure what all this complaining is about.
