Hiya, thinking of changing to an iPad Pro 11" but the one annoying thing seems to be that all the cases (especially the apple ones) cover both the back and front.

What is the point of making a slimmer lighter iPad if you then add mass by having a case on both etc front and back?

I have a Smart Cover for my current iPad and like that it doesn't add much bulk to the device....is there anything similar for the newer iPad Pro?

cheers

I had to laugh, as I read you want a case that only covers the screen, which of course would be near impossible to produce (how would it stay on if it’s only covering the screen?). If you like the thin aspect of the iPad, a solution is to get a thin film screen protector (I’m currently using a iCarez matte protector on my 12.9 iPP) and if you want at least some scratch protection on the back, get a film wrap. Neither will provide any impact protection, but if you treat your devices like the expensive electronics that they are, you should be fine.

None. Apple dont make Smart Cover anymore for the Pro. None from third party as well.

All other cases on the market cover the back as well.

i wonder if the magnets caused the problem of light bleeding... everyone had it on the same side of the tablet and same symptoms.

hmm, i am hesistant to buy the magenic case for the iPP now... was thinking it might work well with having to switch and swap with the AMK, but if this is the issue... then might need to avoid it.

This is not a widespread or widely reported issue. Things like that get magnified here on the Macrumors forums, but I haven't seen any real world complaining about this. The Magic Keyboard is awesome in my experience and it's very easy to just pop the iPad off of it and use it as a tablet when I want to. I put a dBrand skin on the back of my iPad so I don't have to worry about scuffing it up when it's off of the keyboard.

Thanks for the awareness! I actually bought a third party cheap magentic case from amazon, which I'm waiting for it to arrive, along with a regular folio with the soft plastic back to easily swap it with the AMK. So i'll be testing it out and see what works best.

I might look into dBrand skin too since it seems a good alternative to protect the iPad from scratches... I just wished they have a clear film that protect the iPad, but also still keep the looks of it visible.

Just found this thread by search. Kind of knew all along that it's near impossible to go back to a smart cover type design on the latest generations of iPad Pros but I'm still in denial, LOL.

I'm really wanting to replace my wife's iPad Air 2 with an iPP 11 but she has not been interested due to the need to put something on the back of the iPP (i.e. the folio design). Her Air 2 was purchased at launch and still serves her ok, although it's long in the tooth in terms of battery life and speed. She carries it in her small backpack/purse daily with nothing but a smart cover on the front.

Watching streaming content is something that she does for an hour or two daily so I wanted to upgrade her to a Pro model for the improved speakers . . but it looks like an Air 3 or a refurbed 10.5 is a better way to go given the case designs available on the iPP 11's (and 12.9's for that matter).
