wikipanion use to be good but the new update crashes alot

I was using this app on the fly to find an answear real quick, instead
of using safari

is there an alternative to wikipanion?

wiki mobile is a great wikipeda app but it costs $2. I think it may be called iWiki now actually.

That was fast thanks guys

now I gotta choose one between those 3 lol

anyone that has used all 3 recommend one over the other

Wikipedia's mobile site is actually very good, and the only advantage of Wikipanion over Wikipedia's site that I see now is Wikipanion's queue function.

If you don't mind using 2GB, Encyclopedia downloads most of Wikipedia to your iPhone minus pics, tables, and references. It doesn't have any way of jumping to a section of an entry, so on long articles it can mean a lot of scrolling.

Really? Wikipanion (Plus) is one of my most used apps and I can't remember the last time it crashed. Or if it actually ever crashed...

I wouldn't want to miss the queue or the saving for offline reading.

True, but not being able to switch of the automatic landscape mode in Safari is more than annoying since I like reading in bed... Also switching between languages is very comfortable in Wikipanion.

[app]Encyclopedia[/app] is all wikipedia in your pocket and it's 2GB of space on your iPhone.

I have to concur with the OP; yesterday I had multiple crashes on Wikipanion (we're talking 10+ here) -- not on all searches, but certain ones (ie: "Herschel Walker"...don't ask...).

I thought I was the only one experiencing all the crashes...

Wikipanion is crashing with me also. This is a new thing - it's been happening this week to the point where I have stop using it.

I believe Wapedia also has a "save page" function, and it's free. I'm not familiar with the queue functions in other apps. In Wapedia, one has to be viewing the actual article to save it, so you can't queue or save it when browsing titles, but it's good enough for me.

According to http://grydz.com/grid/show/free-wikipedia-iphone-apps

There's nothing better then Wikipanion... But Encyclopedia is a different app... you get to download wikipedia in a compressed format for your ipod touch. No 3G or Wifi needed on the go.

Thanks for that link. Lots of info and supports your comments.

Also, thanks for the info and mention of Encyclopedia. I may just get it at some point.

This app crashes to

if anybody has this app do a seach for north Korea
tell me if it crashes

since these 2 wiki apps crash maybe the problem
is the wiki site not the apps?

I just searched for North Korea in Wikiamo, and it didn't crash. Perhaps you need to use a utilitly like Free Memory, iStat or just do a hard reset on your device to clear some memory.

You know what my mistake it was south Korea not north
do a search and see if it crashes

And no I already have freememory. It tells me I have
49mb free and still crashes

Another ? Why isn't eureka in the app store ?

I've heard that some app combinations can cause apps to crash or do weird things, just a thought....

which ones?
No idea, a few people I've talked to say they keep apps to a minimum cause they've noticed speed and stability were better that way. I've never noticed any problems, and I've always got a lot of apps on my iPhone.

the new update of Wikipanion fixes the crash issue but they removed some features, and they did not mention it in the upgrade change log :(
