I am still getting used to Appple with my new Mini
I am still missing stuff I would like to have on the Mini.
Like the icon in the task bar on window OS / You know, the icon that show when my internet is connected???? the little tv screens.....
I found a Icon site. but do not understand what some of them are.
I am not sure if this is the best place to ask this question.
I am also having difficulty understanding how to bookmark easily in Safari like I do with Firefox etc??? Safari does not seem to offer me the option to bookmark a page and "choose "exactly where to place it.
and also make a new folder in bookmark menu> all in one operation>>> also cant seem to get my bookmarks to stay in the left of screen. when open bookmark they open in a whole window... instead of on the left side of screen in folders ;like I am used to in XP
also is there a built in image capture program in Apple software... like "Hoversnap" In my window mchs ? I push the shift key and "print screen" keys at the same time and it save screen shots
There is so much to learn
Thanks Jean

If you connect wirelessly then in the top right there should be a small upside down triangle made of waves. If that's black its connected (Click it to see more information).

To capture the entire desktop, press Command-Shift-3. The screen shot will be automatically saved as a PNG file on your desktop.

To copy the entire desktop, press Command-Control-Shift-3. The screen shot will be placed on your clipboard for you to paste into another program.

To capture a portion of the desktop, press Command-Shift-4. A cross-hair cursor will appear and you can click and drag to select the area you wish to capture. When you release the mouse button, the screen shot will be automatically saved as a PNG file on your desktop. (The file is saved as PDF in Mac OS 10.3 and earlier.)

To capture a specific application window, press Command-Shift-4, then press the Spacebar. The cursor will change to a camera, and you can move it around the screen. As you move the cursor over an application window, the window will be highlighted. The entire window does not need to be visible for you to capture it. When you have the cursor over a window you want to capture, just click the mouse button and the screen shot will be saved as a PNG file on your desktop. (The file is saved as PDF in Mac OS 10.3 and earlier.)

Just download Firefox for the Mac.

There is no sidebar for bookmarks in Safari. However, you *can* download and install Firefox for Mac. You don't have to use Safari.

The image capture app is called "Grab" and is Applications->Utilities but, like stridemat pointed out, you can take screenshots just as easily with keyboard shortcuts.

This might be a possible alternative. It's not an exact match, but it's close and it's native Mac OS X software.

  1. Drag Activity Monitor to your dock.
  2. Launch Activity Monitor
  3. View > Dock Icon > Show Network Usage
If you like that, you can make Activity Monitor a login item...

...which will make Activity Monitor automatically run when you login.

The lack of sidebar for bookmarks is my biggest problem with Safari; before I had a Mac I used Firefox on windows and became very attached to the bookmark sidebar. I tried Safari's top sites, but it wasn't that good.
